360 won't format

Discus and support 360 won't format in XBoX on Consoles to solve the problem; So i downloaded the new update and have had a external ready for it but the 360 won't format it it doesnt say why or anything USB device brand/size.... Discussion in 'XBoX on Consoles' started by JEER0X, May 1, 2015.

    So i downloaded the new update and have had a external ready for it but the 360 won't format it it doesnt say why or anything

    USB device brand/size. Toshiba Canvio Desk -3TB

    Error message and/or code. just says there was a problem performing that action

    What are you trying to do? format HD for new update

    What is going wrong? won't format

    Can't format external drive for games and apps

    I tried the Xbox 360 format previously, but I tried it again just now. It formats fine but then won't mount on the Xbox One at all.

    Watching video files from DVDs...

    The 360 is compatible with many more file formats than the ONE.

    Don't know why this is but if your copied DVD file won't play on the ONE then it's probably not a format that works with the one.

    360 won't format

    the hdd needs to be exactly 2tb thats why youre seeing this issue. it wont format anything over 2tb. if you plan to get a new hdd to use this feature stay away from seagate for now. 360 won't format :)

    Well, I just used a 1TB drive and the 360 saw it but refused to format.

    why does it have to be exactly 2tb? does it say that somewhere? as far as i knew it would allowcate 2tb to the xbox

    I believe it has to be 2TB because the 360 uses FAT32 file system which has a maximum partition size of 2TB.

    You could try plugging the HDD into your PC, going to disk management then creating a 2TB partition on it. Although not sure if this will work as I haven't tried it.

    Also if you don't know about creating or deleting partitions then you are better off not doing it in case you accidentally mess up the partitions on your PC.

    360 won't format

    the strict 2tb requirement was given to those who participated in the preview program so it should follow here as well. they really should have posted the official statement they posted there so everyone knew

    That not good that I cant formatt my 3TB for my xbox360 . Our 250 hdd cant hold all my stuff.Tell the markers MKX if I put 90 dollars for the game it better be off the hook for xbox360 or xbox1 then PS4.R Im getting the PC 1.

    You can have a drive larger than 2 TB. However you need to create a 2 TB partition on said drive which you can format...both of which are pretty easy to do on any PC.

    HELP WITH USB

    With some of my USB sticks, I've had issues when upgrading from the old 16 GB Max format, to the new Terabyte format that they use for the externals. These new formats aren't compatible with each other, so new 360s will need to format the old sticks for
    them to be of any use, and the old dash 360s won't be able to make use of the new format.

    So the 360 recognizes it just fine, but games won't install? Have you tried formatting it on the 360 itself? Also, do game saves work from the drive? Will music or video content play on the 360 from the drive?
