    My 360 Slim started having the Open Tray / disk won't spin issue. After googling / youtubing many many "fixes", I ultimately just ordered a replacement, original OEM drive identical to the one that was in it.

    After swapping the drives, the problem remains. So I *think* I can rule out all the issues originating from the optical drive itself. Is there anything else I can try to resolve the issue?

    I think we have a misunderstanding here. I believe the OP is having an issue with the on-board memory on their 4GB Xbox 360 Slim, correct?

    If that is the case, then depending on the age of their machine, they either need to return it to the store or set up a repair with Xbox support. The 4GB in the Slim should not be asking to be formatted unless there is a fault with it.

    If you have a Xbox 360 Slim (which as built-in wifi) and you are asked to attach an external networking adapter or an ethernet cable, then the internal wifi has malfunctioned and your Xbox 360 Slim will need to be repaired.
