    360 Slim does not recognize transfer cable to an Elite hard drive


    I bought a 250 GB Slim last night because my Elite red ringed on New Year's Eve after 7 years of use. I hooked up the Elite 120 GB drive to the transfer cable and plugged it into the back of the Slim. I was supposed to get a pop up but nothing happened.
    The Slim was not recognizing the Elite drive no matter what I tried on it. Then I plugged the transfer cable to my computer and the same thing, nothing. It doesn't recognize the Elite drive and the drive does not spin. Does it matter that I'm using a non
    Microsoft transfer cable or is my hard drive just dead?

    Unable to Transfer Data

    So I have an Xbox 360 elite with a 120gb HDD, and the disk reader has gone bad. So I got a 360s and a transfer cable. But when I go to do the transfer the 360s does not even recognize that I have attached my Hard drive, not any device at all. Nothing shows
    up. The Hard Drive still works on my Elite, but when I plug it in to the transfer cable and to the 360s, it makes a click sound every half second or so and does not get detected. Any Help would be awesome 360 Slim does not recognize transfer cable to an Elite hard drive :D

    Forgot to mention you could buy a transfer cable to move all your files from the elite hard drive to your new slim as an alternative.

    Since it's not an official transfer cable, it's hard to say whether it's just the cable or if it's the hard drive. Non-Microsoft cables are known to have issues which is why it's not recommended to use them. If you can get an official cable you may want
    to try that first. If it still doesn't work, then it's probably the hard drive.

    Took the cable back to the store and got another. None of the video game stores in town including EBGames carry the Microsoft one. Also had the store slap my Elite hard drive into a console to see if it was indeed dead. Surprisingly, it worked just fine.
    I get home and try connecting the hard drive to the Slim once more. This time, it recognizes the USB but still doesn't show the hard drive. What am I doing wrong?

    well besides the fact that you are using a 3rd party one instead of a MS one nothing wrong. if you cannot get one locally another option is to back up your saves from the one drive to a USB flash drive then plug in the new drive, transfer the saves back
    onto the newer drive. you can always download anything you bought from the marketplace for free as well.

    I drove all over the city and finally found an MS transfer cable at Future Shop. Brought it home and the problem has been resolved.

    Is this the old hard drive transfer cable for the fat 360 or the one for the Slim?

    My transfer cable that I got with my Elite is still sitting in my draw.

    Xbox 360 Hard Drives

    no the older clip on the outside hard drives on the white 360s and the later elites are NOT compatible with the slim models. only a 250 or 320 gig drive that goes INSIDE the 360 slim will work sorry. but you CAN transfer the data from that drive to the
    other 360 once you have the hard drive in there. you just need to get a data transfer cable like this one:
