360 S "Overheats" in Minutes - Fine for Hours After Restart

I've had my 360 S since January of this year, and have not had any issues until recently. Within the past two or three weeks, I have been getting the "Insufficient Ventilation" warning, then the 360 shuts down and blinks red for about a minute - sometimes
the fan will blow for a bit, sometimes not - then it turns off completely. Upon restart, I get this screen telling me what to do to prevent overheating and then it works fine, not just for minutes, but for hours. I've never had this issue twice in the same
day, but for some reason, when I first turn on the 360, I have been consistently getting this error & subsequent shutdown on a daily basis.

I've tried moving the 360 to a completely open area, blowing out the internals with an air hose (like I said, I've only had it about 3 months, it hasn't gotten
that dusty,) and moving the plug from a surge protector to the outlet (I've heard surge protectors can cause issues) and nothing has changed. It takes, maybe 5-8 minutes to think it has "overheated," then I turn it back on, and it's fine for basically
as long as I want to play it. The thing is, it doesn't even feel hot when it goes into automatic shutdown. Neither the casing nor the air being blown out the top (horizontally placed) feels like it is hot. It feels much hotter when I've been playing
for 2-3 hours, and yet I never have a problem at that point, just after the initial boot.

Hey there, it really does sound like a faulty console to me, my advice would to see if you can still return it from where you bought it as generally they would give you a one year period for return on faulty hardware, you can also check your options with
Xbox themselves by contacting them through here:
support.xbox.com/contact-us

So, after some web searches, I tried the advice of a commenter on a video of some guy that was having a similar overheating issue. He recommended putting something underneath all 4 feet of the 360 to give it a bit more space below the console for better
airflow.

After the first boot-up of the console, it made no difference and shutdown in short order. However, I left my spacers in place and, much to my surprise, I haven't had an overheating issue for close to two weeks now. My solution: bottle caps. Literally
a quarter-inch of space has prevented this issue.

After all the hardware issues the 360 has had in it's various iterations - and even the original Xbox - I'm hoping the build quality of the Xbox One was taken into serious consideration before production...
