    360 playing dvds but not games


    Started giving me the unreadable disc error. Then the unrecognized disc repeatedly. I cleared the cache. Now it's playing dvds and cds but when I insert a game the screen appears as if it's loading then after afew moments it jumps back to the dash board.
    I'm assuming my drive is shot. Any thoughts?

    Xbox Films & TV (Xbox 360 and Xbox One)

    I tested a DVD in my Xbox 360 and I was able to reproduce the audio-drop problem. I never had DVD playback problems before I relocated my Xbox 360 to this new HTMI cable :-(

    This was odd since I used this HTMI cable to connect my PS3 to the television and I didn't remember any issues.

    So I unplugged my XBox 360 and plugged in my PS3 and tried playing the same DVD.

    In the PS3 the DVD played fine and there was no audio drop. Also tested playing a blu-ray disc .... no problem

    Tested a PS3 game .... no problem.

    So is there a compatability issue with XBox 360 and some HTMI cables. Is there a specific specification of cable that is require to play 'Movies & TV' without audio skip ? Or is there specific setting on the XBox 360 and the TV that I need to set in order
    to make things work ? My TV is a Sony Bravia.

    Summary (using same htmi cable):

    XBox 360 - playing games - FINE (no problems)

    XBox 360 - playing DVD - BAD audio-drop problem

    XBox 360 - playing 'Movies & TV' - BAD audio-drop problem

    PS3 - playing 'Movies & TV' - FINE (no problems)

    PS3 - playing DVD - FINE (no problems)

    PS3 - playing games - FINE (no problems)

    A note to Microsoft

    Wait, what??

    Its like the HD-DVD addon for the 360 but it may not have a DVD drive, but its purpose is to allow back compat with XBLA games and 360 games??

    Surely this is wrong as it would need a DVD drive to offer BC for all those 360 retail disc's we all have, or have a read this wrong.

    When it acts like it's loading what I mean is it fades to black for afew seconds then returns to the dash board. However it still gives me the option to 'play game'. It's not giving me the unreadable or unrecognized errors. I'm going to go pick up a disc
    cleaner but I have little faith.

    It could be an issue with the hardware which would require service, but before you look into that and try the disc cleaning kit. Give

    this guide     a shot and see if it helps out.

    There's nothing "normal" about running
    games from the 360's DVD drive. There is no other consumer electronics device that runs a DVD drive at 12x for sustained periods of time.



    The only way to extend the life of a 360 DVD drive is to install all games to HDD or USB MU prior to playing.

    Anyone NOT getting the Xbox ONE, post here!

    Happy with my XBox 360 and heavily invested in my collection of favorite XBox 360 games. I have no use for a Microsoft game console that can't play my games. It's like someone trying to sell me a new DVD player that can't play my existing DVDs.

    I regret to inform you that Xbox 360 S console cannot play HD DVDs. You still need to have an HD DVD player for you to be able to play HD DVDs. However, Microsoft Xbox does not sell Xbox 360 HD DVD player anymore.
