    360 License Transfer Ghost Error

Ok, I checked the forums and noticed that something I brought to CS's attention had not been posted as far as I know. So I'm gonna post this here just to make sure that people know about this. Now I don't know for sure if people know about the error that
occurs during a license transfer; but it is a system error that prevents the profile you want to transfer from, from being downloaded. The reason I call this a Ghost Error is because it's not actually an Xbox Live error nor is it committed by Xbox Live; the
following paragraph will instruct you on the work around I discovered to prevent this error from occurring.

If you recall the fact that your 360 account is linked to your email service provider, then you know that when someone tries to access your email account from a foreign computer or "device" that the email service provider will require proof that the person
attempting access is actually yourself. License Transferring is in essence, you accessing another person's email, but the email service provider's security program interferes with your downloading of the other's account by attempting to ask you for email verification
    through Xbox Live.

Understanding this all you have to do is simple; first you must attempt to access the other individual's email directly through the service provider on your Xbox console. When you get the email verification request you must click the request verification
code button and type in the alternate email (If one exists) belonging to the individual you want to Transfer from. Second, once your compatriot accesses his alternate email, he needs to quickly send you the verification code ( without typographical errors
obviously ) due to the possibility of an expiration time limit on the code itself. By the time you receive the verification code you should have backed out back to the email provider's sign in screen.

Now you try to sign into your friend's/associate's email again and once again get the verification request form; to which this time you will click "I already have a code" followed by typing in the verification code you were given minutes ago. Once you access
that individual's email account, your Xbox 360 becomes what email provider's call a "recognized device". This work around works one hundred percent of the time and to test it to make sure it does; you can go to the sign in screen on xbox.com and attempt to
sign into your friend's/ associate's account. If it lets you into his account on xbox.com it means you followed my instructions correctly, and you will be able to go through the License Transfer without any error stopping you in the middle of the downloading
    process.

    :)

The license transfer tool is meant for you to transfer YOUR content to YOUR new console or hard drive. At no point should someone else's e-mail have anything to do with the transfer. It seems like you are referring to using the transfer tool in order to
share content among other accounts. You should be aware that this can be considered marketplace theft/fraud and can lead to permanent bans for both the consoles involved as well as the accounts. The transfer tool is not meant as a way to acquire content
    you did not pay for!

That's where you are wrong Silky, my work around and my use of License Transferring is within legal use of Microsoft's terms and agreements. As proof here is a complete conversation between me and a representative of Xbox Live's Customer Service with that
representative's permission to use said chat on this forum.

You are now chatting with 'Ellen'

Ellen: Hello, thank you for contacting Xbox Customer Support. My name is Ellen. Please give me a moment to review your question.

    Ellen: Hello Stephen.

    Stephen: Hello

Ellen: As what I can see, this is with the license transfer correct?

Stephen: I had posted an error work around on the support forum pertaining to License Transferring. Someone responded that LT is used between two systems that you own, yet before my first LT years back, I researched that it was legal to share content.

Ellen: Yes it was a legal to share content.

Stephen: I wish to confirm whether or not, that it is within legal use of the License Transfer service to share content between two different people.

Ellen: May I know what is the issue about?

Ellen: Let me send you a link on how License Transfer works.

Ellen: Xbox 360 Digital Rights Management

Ellen: That's how the license transfer works.

Stephen: I already read all that but it didn't answer my question in a manner I needed. Someone who responded to my thread is suggesting that what I proposed is theft/fraud from the marketplace. Yet all the research and questions I asked years ago resulted
in answers that it was legal to share content between two people's accounts.

Ellen: It was a legal one Stephen.

Ellen: As long that you did provide permission to take advantage with the sharing, all is good.

Stephen: Has there been some policy change I don't know about? Every license transfer I've ever done was with the permission of the account owner.

Ellen: Nope, the policy was still the same. No need for you to worry Stephen as long as the permission from the owner existed it is legal and will not be classified as theft or fraud since authorization from the owner does exist.

Stephen: If it is ok with you, I would like to copy/paste this conversation to my forum discussion. I wish for whoever to read it know that sharing game content with people who don't have it is legal.

Stephen: Mostly as proof that my error work around does not pertain to fraud or theft.

Ellen: Yes you can Stephen, that's fine with me.

Ellen: To email this chat session to yourself please click the icon above the chat window:

Stephen: Thank you, I hope you read my thread. It is a work around to a problem that occurs during profile downloading.

    Ellen: Not a problem Stephen.

Ellen: Thank you for your details and concern today as well.

Stephen: I call it the 360 License Transfer Ghost Error.

    Ellen: Much appreciated!

Ellen: Thank you, I will take note of that.

Stephen: The reason I call it a Ghost Error is because it's not actually an error by xbox live nor is it committed by xbox live.

Stephen: But it comes up as an error message

    Ellen: I see, that's a good title

Stephen: The error message is actually occurring because of the email service provider. I gave the means to prevent the LT error from happening.

Ellen: Thank you for letting us know about this.

info: Your chat transcript will be sent to [MOD REMOVED] at the end of your chat.

Ellen: And the LT does resolve the issue correct?

Stephen: My work around has a one hundred percent success rate.

Ellen: Wow! That's very genius of you!

Ellen: If that will work for sure , no problem Stephen as what I have mentioned that as long the permission exist, that's fine.

Stephen: The issue is simple, when you try to download the other person's profile; even if you use the right pass and email, an error will stop you mid way.

Stephen: The reason is because your xbox is an unfamiliar device and so the email service provider refuses you access to the email account.

Stephen: Instead it's attempting to send you a verification request form to prove it's you.

    Ellen: Brilliant!

Ellen: That's a good explanation then.

Stephen: You have to work with the person you're LT'ing from to get a verification code and apply it to the form.

Stephen: Once you access the inbox of the other's email on your xbox. Your system will become a recognized device.

Ellen: Not a problem Stephen , every chat that we had are documented and reviewed by our Team so no need to worry this must be address then.

Stephen: I also included a means to ensure my work around works with a test.

Stephen: After you access the other's email account, go to xbox.com and sign into that person's account on site.

Stephen: If it allows you to sign in on the site, then you did my work around correctly and will be able to download the profile without trouble.

Ellen: I will take note of that Stephen and will suggest that to my workmates as a turn around so that it will allow other customers to do so.

    Ellen: Thank you/

Stephen: No, thank you for helping me prevent a possibly messy situation.

Ellen: Always remember that we on Xbox, would want to provide an excellent service to our valued customers like you.

info: Your chat transcript will be sent to [MOD REMOVED] at the end of your chat.

Ellen: I am proud that I was able to assist someone knowledgeable about this issue.

    Stephen: I'll go ahead and click the x button, I am familiar with the procedure so you don't have to ask. ^ ^;

    Ellen: Before you go,

Ellen: Just to properly end the chat session, please click on the CLOSE CHAT BUTTON on the upper right hand corner of the chat window. ^^

Ellen: Glad to help you out with an excellent service.

    Ellen: All the best!

  6. Hey there

    Welcome to the forums

After doing a little digging online, I have found that it is possible to complete a Licence Transfer with friends. However there is something that is in the way with friends you just know on Xbox Live. and that is the

    Xbox Live Code of Conduct
    .

It does say within the code of Conduct:

    G. Protecting your account and personal information

    • Protecting your account information is extremely important; do not give out your personal information, including but not limited to: phone numbers, email addresses, physical addresses, etc.
    • Use discretion when deciding to share your name and location in your profile and when recording or sharing content you create. If you wish to share any other personal information with another player, please do so using a non-public method.
    • Do not lend, transfer, sell or otherwise provide access to your account.
    • Failure to properly secure your account could result in loss of access to the Xbox Live service.
    • For additional information about making your account more secure, visit our account security page.
Which means if I was to do this with my friend in lets say America, and I am in England. Then I would be in fact is breach of my Xbox Live Code of Conduct. Which means the XBLPET (Xbox Live Policy and Enforcement Officials) are able to issue me with an Account
suspension or Account Ban from the Xbox Live Services.

    I hope this helps

    Regards,

  7. Hey there

    Just to add

However it does say you can share your information using a non public method. So messages. However I would not recommend sharing information with other people you do not know on Xbox Live. (In person I mean) as you do not know who they are, and you are
opening your account to anyone by giving someone your email address.

Please look at this article at the bellow

  8. 360 License Transfer Ghost Error

Unfortunately, phone support is frequently incorrect.

    "H. Fraud & Commerce

Accounts and Gamertags are non-transferable. Do not purchase accounts or Gamertags from third parties.

Do not access or attempt to access accounts that you do not own.

Do not resell or redistribute any part of the Live Service or access to the Live Service."

You can see that in the Code of conduct it clearly states "Do not access or attempt to access accounts you do not own" Doing so is in violation of Xbox Live Code of conduct.

Furthermore, here is some info from the Xbox Live Terms of Use that you agreed to when signing up.

1.9 Are there things I can’t do on the Services? You must not use the Services to harm others or the Services. For example, you must not:

Share your account password or otherwise authorized a third party to access or use the Services on your behalf unless we provide an approved mechanism

3.1. What happens if I do not abide by this Agreement? If you violate this Agreement, we may take action against you including (without limitation) removing your content from the Services, suspending or cancelling your access to the Services, asking you
to refrain from certain activities, blocking your console or device from accessing the Services, and/or referring such activity to appropriate authorities. In the event we take action against you for a violation of this Agreement, we may permanently delete,
and you may permanently lose, some or all of the information or content associated with your Microsoft account and/or we may cancel your Services in their entirety. Content that is deleted may be irretrievable.

So you can at least see that signing into someone elses account is never allowed. If you don't wish to believe that this is all fraud/theft then there is nothing I can do. It has been confirmed on these forums before and you are taking a big risk doing
this. Getting content without paying for it will lead to trouble.

Again, I spoke to customer service on the site pertaining to the legal use of license transferring. Also I have had the transcript of said conversation mailed to both myself and the Enforcement Act Team. As long as you abide by DRM policy concerning use
of License Transferring with the purpose of updating another console with licenses so that players can be authorized to download and use any game content legally purchased from the market place by the account owner doing the transferring; and as long as you
abide by section G of the Code of Conduct pertaining to the willful distribution of personal information via means non-public and non-commercial, then you are within your legal right to transfer games to/from another console as long as a third party is not
    involved.

The only way it is illegal is if you perform a license transfer with third party software with the intent of hacking; if you pertain to the use of unauthorized access to another account without permission of authorization from that account owner, or the
way it used to be before the swap from Microsoft Points to currency, if you posses or purchase any Market Place content with stolen/fraudulent currency ( Microsoft Points ) then it is in violation of your Terms and Agreements contract which would/will result
in immediate legal prosecution by both the Enforcement Act Team in regards to cancelling/suspending and and all Services provided by Xbox Live as well as legal prosecution by State/Federal law. Otherwise if you have carried out License Transferring within
your legal rights pertaining to your Terms and Agreements Code of Conduct and DRM policy then any legal action taken against you is in violation of your consumer rights under the protection of your State's/Federal Unfair Deceptive Trade Practice's Act laws.

H4wkEye25 - If you look around the forums a bit, you will find plenty of instances where customer support has been incorrect. It plainly states in the TOS that you are not allowed to share your login info "For example, you must not: Share your account password"

or to access someone elses account "Do not access or attempt to access accounts that you do not own."

Right there it tells you that you can't sign into someones account that isn't yours. If you are not allowed to sign in as them then you are not allowed to to do what you describe in your original post. I am pointing you directly to the binding contract
that you agreed to when you signed up to the service. There is no allowed sharing of digital media with the current system. They tried to set one up for the Xbox One but people complained about the need to be "always" connected so they removed that feature.
What you are talking about doing is against the TOS and the Code of Conduct. Support chat is wrong. This is a bannable offense whether you agree or not.

    Hi H4wkEye25,

As has been mentioned several times in this post, it is against the Code of Conduct to License Transfer your content licenses to share with other users.

Doing this may be cause for suspension or banning of your account from Xbox Live.

    As has been noted:

    • Do not access or attempt to access accounts that you do not own
    • Do not lend, transfer, sell or otherwise provide access to your account.

I will be locking this thread.
