360 HDD disappeared?

Recently my 360 requested an update. I agreed to let it update, but a message popped up saying I had no memory to allow the update. When I restarted the console and did NOT agree to receive said update, the xbox seemed to have wiped all of the memory. I
tried going to the "Storage" setting but nothing shows - it says I have zero memory, not even the internal drive! I also cannot redownload my profile because it says I don't have the memory capacity to do so. It seems to me that the HDD is corrupted or no
longer readable. What do I do?

Original Xbox backwards compatibility problem on Xbox 360

Is your HDD a legitimate one from Microsoft ? the reason I asked is because people were able to make HDDs for the 360 by extracting files from original 360 HDDs and putting them in theirs. The issue with that is those HDDs could not automatically get the necessary files for backwards compatibility. You would have to hook the HDD up to your computer and manually do it.

Yes you do need HDD. But fear not, many game stores sell second hand HDDs for 360 very cheap, so it will not cost you much.

Second option is to plug in a memory stick to front usb, which will act as external HDD. Your 360 must have updated to allow that, or be recent enough model. However, since 20GB memory stick costs about the same as used HDD, you might be better off just buying the HDD.

 

Pull it out and put it back in, see if that fixes the problem. If not then unplug everything but the TV and power if it still doesn't work then the hard drive is probably toast and you'll likely need to replace it.

Probably. You can try calling or chatting with support, but most likely it'll be the same answer.
