360 Games With Gold on Xbox One

New to the One, got it last Friday.

Setup MS Account, Live Gold subscription, gamer tags etc. No problem

Downloaded the 2 Xbox One free games available (Pneuma & Walking Dead). No problem

Thought I'd have a look at the much-advertised "wow, now you get more games, you can also play the 360 Games with Gold titles too"; so tried to download Dirt3

...and it took me to the app store (poor Xbox one integration right there)

...where the only option is to download to Xbox 360 (never owned one)

...and when I try it anyway I'm told I don't have any payment options setup (I do)

...and when I try to setup a new payment option I can't change my country from US (I live in UK, Xbox One know I'm in UK, my MS account knows I'm in the UK; and accessing the store from a PC has same results)

So can you add the Xbox 360 Games with Gold titles to your One (even if you never owned a 360) ?

...and if so, what am I doing wrong ?

Cannot purchase "free" 360 games on Xbox one or Xbox.com

It has always been like that not unless there will be an update regarding in redeeming Xbox 360 games with gold on the website. Xbox 360 marketplace has a different structure than on Xbox One Store. Xbox 360 games with gold on the website will need a payment
method. In Xbox 360 console, you won't need one. Currently, you can't redeem Xbox 360 games with gold using Xbox One console and still under progress about redeeming Xbox 360 games with gold on Xbox One console. Either get the games using an Xbox 360 console,
or get the games on the website with a payment method.

I feel bad, because I want to be able to post a "This is how you do it...", so apologies for jumping in on your post.

I am in the same boat, have never owned a 360, purchased the xb1 over a year ago, and now we have backwards compatibility. Great, I would like to try out these games too. I have a payment option attached to my account, and have clicked on the game to download
(Dirt3). I now have a message which says is now available on my 360. Just in case it appears in my Games and Apps on xb1, loaded up and nothing.

For those of us not having a 360, does that mean we're not able to access the GWG 360 games on Xbox One?

Try downloading Dirt 3 from the website that's what I done and it went straight onto my Xbox One

I've checked all language and location settings (English - UK); and restarted the XBOne.

I've tried using the website to download.

Still the same problem - only shows a 360 download link; and if I click it anyway it says I have no valid payment options; and my account has payment options on it.

Has anyone who has never owned a 360 been able to successfully download Dirt3 on a XBOne?

Bit stuck now, I guess I can contact MS to see if they're able to help.

 

I was on chat with MS support for over three hours last week for the same issue. I never owned a 360, but do have a One. I made the assumption that I would be able to claim the Xbox 360 GwG titles online and eventually be able to play them on the One (they
are, in fact, advertising that very thing right now). However, I have never been able to claim 360 GwG titles online because it always claims I have no valid payment options and never allows me to select one (I have three on file).

Bottom line for anyone considering Xbox: PS+ allows you to claim PS4, PS3, and Vita games online and if you ever pick up those systems those games will be in your download queues. It works quite easily on PSN. Apparently Microsoft requires that you own
(or have previously owned) an Xbox 360 to be able to claim those free games. Not sure why Microsoft, a *software* company, can't figure this out when Sony can, but it's worth noting: your Xbox Live subscription is only half as valuable as they advertise
since there is currently no way to claim your Xbox 360 content (even though you technically paid for it by becoming a Live Gold member).

 

I'm having exactly the same problem, when I try to enter payment details it requires me to input a US credit card. Does Microsoft want my hard earned GBP?

Anyone has problem with Gears of War 3 playing in multiplayer? Is horrible, imposible!

 

Posting an update as I've successfully sorted things out now and can play the GWG 360 titles on the XBone.

...figured the info might be useful for others...

First up, I somehow managed to get 2 versions of my MS account - one in UK, the other in US.

Absolutely no idea how this happened as I said UK at every step, but suspect it was something to do with the initial Gold account creation process as the free trial period vanished as soon as I linked my Xbone to my account.

The very helpful guys on the XBone Support Twitter feed helped me to resolve this by migrating the US account, so I no longer get told I have no valid payment options setup. I won't attempt to describe the steps involved as they included some dire warnings
about losing previously purchased games,etc. But if you're having a problem where you are told you have no payment options setup and you definitely do then get in touch with them - there is an easy solution.

The second problem was mainly down to my inexperience with the XBone interface and the rather incomplete way that 360 backwards compatibility has been implemented.

To get the 360 GWG figured you need to follow links to the website and select "Download to 360" (even though you're on a XBone).

Then you need to go to your games list on the XBone and scroll right until you find the 360 titles listed under "ready to install"- then install and play, no problem.

As I had a new XBone, and was not familiar with the interface I didn't know where to find the "ready to install" list until I stumbled over it.

Obviously, getting backwards compatibility working is a major achievement, so I don't want to be overly critical, but the whole process could definitely do with some improvements moving forwards - preferably making the process more integrated and natural,
like the way you get native XBone GWG titles.

Anyway, hope that helps anyone who has had similar problems and find this thread.
