360 Elite won't complete boot.

I recently got a new monitor for my desk, an Acer s230HL. Since it only has VGA-in I bought an HDMI-to-VGA adapter that hooks into my Xbox's HDMI port and has a VGA-f end that matches with a VGA cable connected to the monitor. This setup worked flawlessly
for about a week but yesterday I ran into a problem, my Xbox won't complete it's boot cycle. I know that for it to do so the Xbox and monitor must complete a handshake before it finalizes but it is not working because my monitor won't recognize the Xbox unless
it is fully booted and my Xbox won't boot until the monitor recognizes it. I'm stuck in the middle of a cruel catch-22. I know the cable setup is not the problem because my PC works without issue, though I have not tested my Xbox One so I don't know if it's
solely a Microsoft problem. I have not changed any display settings on either the monitor or the Xbox since they last worked, though even if that was the problem I can not change it Xbox-wise as I can't get to the settings menu. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the response .... however .... no joy on either the different power supply or a different wall socket.

Try resetting the console display settings using the RT and Y button, the link below gives you a guide on this at the bottom of the page:

Try and that let us know how you get on.

 

That doesn't work because the controller isn't fully connected.

 

What model xbox do you have, if it is an S or E model hold the power button on the console down until the lights flash several times.

 

It's an original 360 elite. I tried that and nothing happened, it just turned on like usual. Related to that, when I do go to turn it on, it doesn't go through the usual "routine" with the disc tray whirring and the LEDs around the power button flashing
around in a circle.

Somebody on Reddit mentioned to try a different input so I'm going to pick up a cable for that tomorrow, I'll post if that solves it.

 

Follow up time. I went out and bought a female to male HDMI to DVI adapter at the local radio shack and attached that to the end of my HDMI cable and whaddaya know, it worked! Something must have gone wonky from using a non-HDMI cable on a HDMI output.
