360 controller won't work on PC

I can't get my 360 controller to work with my PC (a play and charge kit). I have windows 10 and have tried reinstalling the drivers. All I get is four green blinking lights. Changing USB ports hasn't worked. It shows up as "unspecified" on my control panel
for some reason.

Any Ideas?

Trying to use XBOX 360 controller with my PC

My MadCatz 360 controller works with PC games, so yes third party wired controllers do work on the PC.

will the xbox 360 controller work in forza horizon 3 on pc or do i need to buy a xbox one controller to play on pc ?

I'm sorry to ask such a silly question, but are you simply plugging the controller into the PC and installing the drivers, or do you have the additional device as pictured here:

You need this "adapter" in order for the controller to work on the PC, even with the play and charge kit.

If using ds4 and settings the controller as a 360 controller didn't worked then you won't be able to use it on the app, manufacturer of your controller doesn't have the drivers for PC and that's what difficult the use of the controller on Pc

Not sure what's happened here but the problem is either with the controller hardware itself or the Xbox 360. The 360 controllers can be used on both interchangeably. It won't become a 'Windows 360 controller' after you use on a PC. I have an old 360 that I fire up every now and again, my controller works on both my PC and my 360.

For 360 controllers to work on PC without any additional hardware, they must be wired. The 360 play and charge for wireless controllers
won't turn a wireless controller into a wired one. The reason is simply because the play and charge can not send data, it only provides power.

There aren't any drivers to download for Windows 10 as the drivers for Xbox 360 controllers are already built into the OS.

The Xbox 360 controller uses its own type of wireless protocol, it's not Bluetooth and so it can't be connected to a PC directly without additional hardware. It needs an Xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver for use on a PC. This receiver needs to be specifically for Xbox 360 controllers. The receivers for the Xbox One controllers won't work either.

Are your controllers wireless? If the answer is yes and you've plugged thm in with a play and charge to make them 'wired' it won't work.

Wireless controllers are always wireless, you'll need a 360 gaming receiver to make them work on a PC.
