360 console reccomendation?

I`m in the UK so any list of retailers I did post would probably be of no use to you what so ever.

I have bought numerous used 360 consoles in the past (for friends and family members) and have never had a problem.

I always check the on-line functionality before handing over my/their hard earned cash. It`s just the same as buying a used car, ask all the questions you need to and have a test drive first.

They might be true technological facts but IMO that's poor advice

Unless you are buying a dodgy console off a car-boot sale there is no risk.

Any retail store selling second hand consoles DO NOT sell banned consoles.

If they did by accident it would be exchanged.

Also if you buy from eBay or anywhere else online, the same applies.

The second hand market is a fantastic thing and I fully support it.

Not everyone has the luxury of being able to buy everything new.

And even if you have, its wasteful and bad for the environment.

We already live in too much of a disposable world.

Actually its very good advice. I take it you have never traded in a console. When you trade one in you dont have to connect to xbox live, you only have to prove that the console can play a game. Once you prove that it works, you get your money or store credit.
Now if the console has been its only banned from live. If it has veen banned from live once its sold to a new owner they wouldnt be able to connect to live because the previous owner got over on the store. Its a fact that this happen, look at the support forums
or on the chat. Or did you spend all your time doing EU to get that star? [/quote]

Not only are you very insulting, but you are still wrong.

If the console is banned from online play you are entitled to a refund.

This applied to ANY retail store in the UK.

As the console is sold to be able to play on XBL.

They advertise the console to have that as its functionality.

So if it doesn't then you get a refund or exchange.

If you bought a car which was advertised as having air-con and the air con didn't work, you'd be entitled to a refund.

Air-con has no effect on how a car gets you from A to B whatsoever, but it still HAS to work for the sale to be complete.

Also, may I make it quite clear that mockery of my Ambassador level status will not be tolerated.

I offer A LOT of help and advice to the community and just because you are wrong gives you no argument to insult me.

I do not appreciate it and you may assume this as a written request for you to stop.

If this request is not acknowledged then I shall report to the appropriate MS staff.

Ok let me make this completely clear to you. MS discourages the purchase of used consoles. When buying used you run the risk of buying a banned console. Not once in any of my posts did I say you wouldnt get a refund so you in fact are just making stuff up
now. If a console is sold that was apart of the Entertainment for All plan and the original owner didnt pay, tye console is banned. Sure you can get a refund but no one ever said you couldnt. Please do some research on this matter, it will benefit you

A lot of manufacturers discourage the sale of their products second hand, no profit from the sale.

But as long as there are folk who can`t afford to buy new, second hand is their only option, been there myself.

Thanks x25hrs .. did not know about the Entertainment for All Plan. I just hear ppl mention a console dosnt have to be banned for it to get banned in the future.. are there any other reasons why a future ban could sneak up on a new owner due to the previous
owners actions (aside from the obvious offensives) ?

*** I guess I should of added.. I understand MS recommends not to buy used & the risk of buying used.. just tying to be smart if I can, and avoid any mess.. knowing the reasons for future bans so I can better understand the risks. ***

And thanks Benny I see it the same as buying a used car. I wouldn't buy a used car without any knowledge of its history.. and some sort of guarantee from the owner. There plenty of used cars that have not been abused, u just have to be willing to dig a little.

The new model 360E does look nice (like a little Xbox One) but it does not have an AV port or an optical output as on the 360S.

The E also uses exactly the same model HDD as the S.

The S as previously stated has built in Wi-Fi and is quiet in comparison to the original 360.

The original 360 console had three incarnations each with different chipsets, Xenon, Falcon and Jasper, in that order.

The last, Jasper, has the lowest power consumption of the three and is the one to go for. A quick guide for identifying the chipset here -

If you did want to go down the second hand route there are certain retailers who check and guarantee the on-line function of used consoles, ie, that they have not been banned.

i do have a few other WIFI devices around the house, so sharing the signal most of the time, excpet late night, is something id have to do.

thanks Ownage. is the WIFI on the slims any good? i remember ppl complaining about the WIFI adapaters for the non-slim back when i played.. poor signal ect.

a quiter system sounds good, and sounds like it may not overheat and get RROD as likely as a non-slim.

if i were to buy used, how would i avoid that risk of buying a console that was banned? buy from someone i trust, just ask the person if it was ever banned?
