250gb hard drive

    Im planning on putting it into a 4gb Xbox

    Can I just insert the drive and it will work straight off

    Or do I have to transfer the data from the 4gb onto the 250gb

    I believe putting a hard drive in disables the onboard flash memory. So yes, you would either need to transfer the files or download them again from Live. This would only apply to the profiles and Live purchases (referring to downloading), any game save
    files you want to preserve you will have to transfer prior to installing the drive. You could copy them (game save files) to cloud storage if you don't have the transfer cable.

    not true when a hard drive is installed in a 4 gig model the internal memory is not disabled you can transfer the memory from the 4 gig and vice versa.

    I have the transfer cable is it best to transfer the data to the 250gb and then put the drive in or do I need to do that cheers

    You can just put the hard drive in. You don't need to transfer anything to it.

    I stand corrected - for some reason I thought I had read the 360 only recognized one or the other (hard drive vs internal flash memory) and I could find nothing related in the Xbox help sections either. If this is truly the case, then all you need to do
    is install your hard drive and transfer files if you desire.

    No transfer needed though it might be a good idea... those flash drives--as do all flash drives honestly--tend to fail. If you decide you want to move everything to the HDD just shove it in the bottom and then hover over the items on the storage screen
    and select "move."

    So you can move the 4gb mem to the 250 GB without a data cable (I do have a data cable)

    Right. You would not need a transfer cable to transfer any files from the 4gb to the 250gb.

    Hardware difference between Slim 4 GB and 250 GB xbox?

    The difference is the the 250Gb X360 has a 250Gb hard drive, and the 4Gb X360 has a 4Gb internal memory....and that is all. You can buy a 250Gb hard drive and install it into the 4Gb X360 if you want.

    is your one have a 250GB removable hard drive then it's okay. if not don't do it! it will void the warranty and you will get banned. so buy a 250GB removable hard drive.

    sorry for my previous answer. you said removing your 250GB hard drive. so I thought it's also a 4GB system with a 250GB HDD. if it's the case then it's okay. if not, don't do it!
