    my Xbox 1 is frozen attempting to apply the most recent update from the 24 October 2019. It appears to be frozen at the applying update, at 72%.

    i have attempted to let the xbox just take as long as it needed to apply the update. 2-3 days later still could not apply update. the xbox would automatically turn off after a couple hours of attempting to apply update. i've attempted to pull the xbox away
    from the applying update screen by pushing any and all buttons on the controller, and inserting different discs to get an operation override.

    i've done a hard reset by holding the power button for 10 seconds. waited 30 seconds, then started the xbox back up. it would automatically go back to applying update screen and still be stuck at 72%.

    i followed up with the same scenario, but i also disconnected the power cable from the xbox, waited 1 minute, and the restarted the xbox to be brought back to the exact screen.

    i have never had any issues with my xbox before this moment. i do regular preventive measures such as dusting and making sure it has optimum space for cooling. i also do not keep a lot of information on the xbox, such as games or saved files on my xbox 1
    anymore. i mainly use it for Netflix and Hulu.

    all the technical support i can find talks about being able to access the settings, but i can not get it away from the applying update screen.

    Need assistance to update or factory reset. i really wish there was a technical line i could call to communicate with microsoft directly about this issue.

    i attempted install it again using the USB and it didnt work. so i just loaded it up like i normally would expecting the same results. The update finished applying, allowing me to use the xbox again as normal.

    of course i had to sign back in and deal with the new updates, but that's little sweat to it not working at all. thank you for your help.

    i appreciate all that helped and i hope this may help others in the future.

    Try hard resetting your xbox to see if it restarts the process.

    i am not using a ethernet cable. thank you for the suggestion.

    i was able to get the troubleshoot mode to come up. i was able to download the update on to the USB.

    once i plugged the USB into the xbox and selected update offline. i receieve an error code automatically.

    System Error: E101 00000504 8B050041.

    a google search led me to this site:

    which leads me back to updating offline using a USB.

    After a few attempts to hold the EJECT and BIND buttons on the xbox to open the reset screen. i have finally been able to pull it up. i have on hold with that screen while i download the update to a USB.
