2014-02-03 Classic daily challenge

Before applying the update: one more corrupted challenge - the Feb 7 3-star Classic, so in total 4 crashing challenges now.

Will see if the update fix them.

 

Great thanks. After the patch all 3 of the 'problem' games now load so I can now (try to) get back to completing all the challenges this month.

 

Still waiting for the patch to show up in windows store here.

 

Windows 8.0 or 8.1? The new version for 8.1 showed up in the Store this morning.

 

Windows 8. I guess I'm the poor relation now.

 

The app update hasn't shown up here yet. I'm using Windows 8. Are they going to provide an update for Windows 8 Mahjong?

 

Minesweeper, Mahjong, and Solitaire versions appear to have ended at 1.8.x... on Windows 8, while 2.1.x... versions have been available for Windows 8.1. Today's Mahjong update now pushes the version to 2.2.x...

As there are issues (unlockable new achievements in Minesweeper, Daily Challenge glitchers in Mahjong) in the 1.8.x... versions, I don't know if this will change or not. If the 2.1/2.2.x... versions have Windows 8.1 dependencies, it may not be possible
to just release them to 8.0 users.

The inability to unlock the new Minesweeper achievements motivated me to back up, do a factory reset, and get a fairly clean upgrade to 8.1 this weekend, just so that I could get those achievements. Trying to just update to 8.1 with whatever registry/dll/driver
cruft I had in my 8.0 install led to nothing but problems.

 

That's why I wasn't in a big hurry to upgrade to 8.1. I had just gotten used to 8.0. I'm not looking forward to the usual aggravations from doing an "upgrade" but I guess as usual I will be forced to do what Microsoft tells me if I want to use my computer
for what I want to do. Then I guess I'll have to do it again when the new upgrade comes in April.

 

Yep, guess I'm lucky enough to be using 8.1 and the update worked.

Noticed in all 4 (previously) corrupted challenges there seem to be new layouts and an extraordinarily large number of wildcard tiles. perhaps that's what caused the crashes?

 

That's what I'm thinking, too.

If you check out the new boards available (3 easy, 4 medium, 2 hard, 1 expert), these also have huge amounts of Flowers and Seasons tiles.

I suppose if the puzzle generator for the Daily Challenges is restricted to the limitations of the 1.8.x... versions that people on Windows 8.0 are still using, the problem will stop coming up. That would still leave some people with 4 uncompleted challenges,
but the remaining challenges will probably be sufficient to win all three badges.

 

I am in the process of investigating this. As always, you guys know that I'll tell you as soon as I know something.
