There is a balancing act with companies trying to provide a value to consumers, while not making the product "immortal". Lol. It would not be a stretch to believe some companies may be a little too conservative on the life cycle of their products. Do I believe
they are trying to fleece consumers? No. Do I believe it has to do with cost and being competitive while providing a safe product? Yes.

Take the 360 and the "Red Ring Of Death". Personally believe it was the lead free solder. M.S. probably had multiple 360 s continually on testing for malfunctions, and didn't take into account people cycling the unit so frequently. Multiple temperature variations
with non controlled cycling caused the solder to crack. The PS3 s had the same problem, though later in their life cycle, with the "Yellow Light Of Death". The conspiracy theorist could make a argument that both companies designed their products to fail after
a certain time.
This has the right of it. I used to be in the electronics industry... awhile... back. The very school I went to for my degree, outright stated the fact that there is indeed a balancing act between providing a good value for customers and making a product
so solid that they'd literally put themselves out of business by selling something that almost never needed replacing.

One of the instructors used to love to tell students about how he used to 'bread board' circuits for certain companies in his earlier years. Engineers would send down beautifully planned out, well designed schematics that were solid. Power supplies had multiple
filters, traps, both inline and bypass, built in redundancy... and then the technicians were instructed to basically start removing QA components, one at a time, until the unit either failed or fell out of spec to the point that the product it was being used
in malfunctioned. Then put the last component back, to bring it back into proper operating specs, and that was the production model.

Does it sound sneaky and a bit underhanded? Sure it does and in some ways, it is. However, all those extra components cost extra to incorporate into the circuit... and that's (in this particular case, a power supply) just one part of the final product. So
companies are left with a choice, make it last much longer, at a higher cost and still put themselves out of business, or give them reasonable quality and expected lifespan with a reasonable price.

Considering how fast technology becomes outdated in today's market, even if it were to be called "planned obsolescence", it would certainly not be such a dastardly act as it seems on the surface. I mean... just for one example, would it have been nice that
my old flip phone that barely did more than text was still around and working flawlessly? Well, actually, it worked the last time I used it... and therefor, I'm glad I didn't have to pay a lot more for it, just to know it would've still been working in another
5 years.

^ which is still a long way from a company deliberately designing a product to fail after a certain date. 2 year warranty for any new console :)

3. ^^ To both the above.

Perhaps if we were to keep this discussion going, we could, albeit inadvert.. we could uncover more?

Nah, the powers that be wouldn't let it get that far. So look for this thread to get deleted/locked.

And in the examples some of those products may last for years depending on use, I have a Quad 303 power amplifier that was built in the 70's and still gets daily use (its never been serviced either!) while I'm sure most models that left the factory that
day are long gone. certainly no built in kill switch. Lol!

Hum.....There is nothing to undercover.....

There are peoples still using 20 years old TVs,VCR,Atari 2600,NES,Technics SP 1200,.....and i'm still using my 10 years old mobile phone.

So,the famous conspiracy (one more time) is in your head.

Apple makes more money by releasing a new Iphone every year than trying to make faulty products.

7. Not quit true Tzar: For example, a decade ago most every home electronic item was analog, not digital. So analog tech devices could last for centuries.

These days things are different. Wireless tech that you may think only connects to what you chose to connect it to, actually can connect to (*hidden) wireless signals you weren't even aware existed. (*learned this from XBL Support btw)

So technically, your offline xbox one could be ghost connected to any number of wireless signals without your knowledge.

Cell phone/wireless net is most everywhere. So it is within reason for a "kill switch" to be used at any time. So the above. "my amp still works" or "20 years old TVs,VCR,Atari 2600,NES,Technics SP 1200,.....and i'm still using my 10 years old mobile phone."
argument is irrelevant!

Hey Electro.

You don't have to be too worried about your XBox grassing your details to the world.

The Wireless signals have a limited range and if you manage your home wireless properly your connection will be much more secure than say... taking your laptop to Starbucks, connecting to their Public WiFi and then doing your online banking. That's where
someone purposefully trying to steal your data may actually succeed.

Also there is no secret background sub-wireless pathway to steal your data away either. Even if XBox LIVE support told you there was. Access points are exactly that. Access points and without the access points you don't have... well... access.

@ Electro, my last comment was out of order, so I apologise. Your opinion is just as relevant as mine or anyone else's even if i don't see the logic or sense in it.

12. Azrael, you totally missed it. But I can't explain it any better than I did.

Net kill switches exist, Turkey's 'failded coup' for example. So why not a local wireless *ghost, corporate/gobernment run monetering system? (Only way I know to discribe it) - unless you know the exact name for the wireless signal, your device (pc, phone,
console) won't show it.

Genchy, as always. Apology accepted.

So my exampless are irrelevant, just because you say so....(or just proved, one more time that you're wrong)

Electronic devices are electronic devices, end of the story.

Now,prove your point, where is your kill switch, where is your conspiracy?

Until then, just shut up or find another topic, rant or conspiracy.

14. Yes Tzar, your examples are irrelivant. anolog technology of ages gone by, never connected wirelessly for updates, so your vcr or whatever could not be effected by a wireless 'kill switch.'

Also, proof is for Courts and not forums.

They are relevant, live with it.My mobile phone, like millions of analog or digital devices don't have kill switch.

So,if you can't add more about your conspiracy,i'll wait until you go to court and reveal your conspiracy theories to the world.
