2 XBoxes (same house), 2 copies of Destiny disc, need to reset router every time so both can ...

Last week I had a question about playing Destiny on 2 XB1s in the same house (Uh oh... that shouldn't have happened.). I have one Xbox that is my "home". My son uses that. I use the second xbox. The very first time
I setup the game we were both able to connect and play with no problems. Since the first time, the "home" xbox says that it cannot connect to the destiny servers. I did all the troubleshooting tips that the "marionberry" error code suggested on their site
but the only thing that seems to work is to reset the router.

I am connected via Ethernet and the home xbox is connected via wireless from the same router that I am connected to. I have seen this connection error on both Xboxes but since I usually log in first, we are usually troubleshooting the home xbox.

Once my son launched another game to "reset" destiny and that seemed to work but it hasn't worked since. I've only had the setup for a few days and saw it both times we tried to play together and both times I had to reset the router.

The other thing that is strange is that the his voice works sporadically. Most of the time, I can see the little speaker in his banner but no voice. I've checked his settings on the xbox and within the game. everything is opened up. All networking seems
to be working fine. Something just isn't right. this stuff is just "supposed to work" and it doesn't. I spent about 2 hours just trying to get this up and running.

Anyone have any ideas? I will post on bungie's forums as well but this feels like more of an xbox issue.

2 xbox ones on one network issues

I recently purchased 2 xbox with two gold accounts. One for me and one for my room mate. The issue is we can get them both connected with two copies of destiny and forza Horizon. I have the nighthawk router, blast 50 from Comcast, and one is connected
directly to router.

the issues:

destiny we rec. frequent drops when trying to join the same fire team and chat drops

horizon: we can connect but one wireless has lag and no chat

my question is what can I try to fix the issues as this should be able to complete.

Having Connection Issues with Friends

If your both in the same house some routers don't allow 2 Xbox 360's playing at the same time. Try looking up troubleshooting for your router.

Well looks like I am a little too slow. Shame on me for getting distracted during my post. HaHa

 

I may have fixed it but as this is sporatic I am not sure. I gave unique names to each xbox and also added them to the DHCP client table in my router. The connection worked as well as the voice after I did this. I have only tried connecting both once
since then so I can't say for 100% sure that this did the trick. But I will give you the details you asked for anyway in case anyone else is looking for help.

The Netgear Nighthawk R7000 seems to be a router, Is it connected to another Gateway or Modem which provides an internet connection to it ?

 

Yes, the Netgear R7000 is a router. It is the one that I use and it works well Would you please provide the information required by FearedNightmare.

 

I haven't had any problems since I added each xbox to the dhcp client list in my router. I also gave them unique names as well. One or both of those changes seems to have fixed my issue with the audio and the disconnects. Although destiny was down all
night last night so I couldn't verify. I will end up getting on with my son tonight and will report back.

The netgear is my router. I missed that you wanted both the modem and the router. The modem is a surfboard sb6141

 

Alright, well good to hear that you managed to resolve things.

Doing a quick search on the internet makes it seem like the surfboard is just a modem and not a gateway so no configuration needs to be done there(was just making sure). What I would of suggested next was to add 1 Xbox to DMZ on your router and the other
as port forwarded of course both with a static IP.

If you encounter issues again I suggest trying that, but as far now since it's working, just leave it as it is
