2 Xbox1s on one home network, how do I get Nat settings to open on both? - Take 2

Any network work savvy people know how to config a home network so that 2 Xbox1s can both run at the same time with "Nat Open" setting?

I am using a Netgear Nighthawk R7000. I have enable UPnP and Port Triggering.

One XB1 is open and the other is strict. Any ideas?

So far I have:

1 - Set static IP address on both XB1s (10.0.X.X)

2 - Disabled Port Forwarding

3 - Disabled Port Trigering

4 - Disabled DMZ

5 - Enabled UPnP

6 - Cycled power to Gateway and both XB1s

Result was NAT Type Moderate on one XB1 and Strict on other XB1

 

This is on Problem - you can´t use UPnP AND Port Triggering - only 1 of these are allowed.

I would try UPnP only and restart the Router. (Be sure you have the latest Firmware for this Router - it´s a new Router and there are many updates on the Firmware).

If this doesn´t work:

You can Port Trigger ONLY Port 3074 TCP/UDP and 3075 TCP/UDP.

I read somwhere if port 3074 is used for 1 xbox then xbox live uses 3075 for the other one.

If you change UPnP ort Port Trigger then always restart your router

 

If trying to use two consoles on the same network you cannot use portforwarding or -triggering as ports can only be forwarded to one device at a time. And as porttriggering in most cases includes the forwarding of the opened ports to the opening device it's
not working either. Same thing with using DMZ.

So as you only forward the ports to one console even if configured for "any" only one device will get them and gets set to "open" but by this the ports are unavailable for the second one and this one gets "strict".

Only way to have working more than one console on the Dame network is to use UPnp as this normally gives you at least moderate NAT on both consoles, which usually works without problems.

Only exception is CoD where it's not possible to play online in the same lobby. But this is a CoD restriction only.

 

Yep UPnP is the only way. You must delete all your port forwarding and port triggering.

The problem is you can only forward the same port to one device at a time. And triggering only sends the traffic to the device that triggered the port.

I have actually tried using 3075 as a backup port in the past as well. It doesn't work.

Problem is though that a high proportion of routers have poor UPnP support. Especially those supplied by ISP's.

You're best to only ever buy routers that are confirmed to have multi-console support in the xbox hardware network forums. A router confirmed to have multi-console support will have excellent UPnP and give consistently open NATs on multiple consoles at the
same time without any configuration.

My previous 2 routers could not handle 2 Xboxes at the same time. I had to settle for moderate NATs on those.

My current router though which I chose with the help of the network forums gives me consistently open NATs with no configuration needed.

Nothing in the forums on whether the Netgear R7000 will support multiple consoles. /fingers crosses

 

Malacath, which router are you using to obtain two open NAT xbox consoles?

 

The Netgear Nighthawk R7000 (AC1900) should support multiple console support, if not Netgear have messed up any of their new firmware versions that is.

D-Link DIR-868L AC1750. It's is router only. There is no built in modem so you would need to connect it to a modem

 

Thanks for that. That's another hundred pounds I shouldn't have to spend. I hate these BT Home Hubs.

 

Yep the home hubs are some of the worst routers ever created

You need to use a modem that is suitable for your connection. If you have BT Infinity then you need a VDSL2 modem. I use the openreach modem for my Infinity connection.

As long as the modem works with your connection it shouldn't make a difference.

You may have problems if you use a gateway though as these have their own NATs and would need to be put in bridge mode
