2 xbox one consoles, one gold membership, setting console to home issues.

Unfortunately, you don't describe which account has the Gold membership and how the "Home Consoles" are set up.

Let me give you a bit background knowledge:

Memberships and digital game purchases are tied to the user account that purchased the membership or digital game download. This "owner account" can go on any console, sign in with his account, and as long as this account is connected online, they have their
Gold Membership and access to their games.

This "Owner account" can designate one single console as their "Home Console" as "yFoX inSanuS" describes above by going to the Settings and under "Personalization" define that one console as their "Home Console".

This setting will then share their Memberships and Games to that console. Which means: Anyone playing on that Home Console can play all the games and benefit from the Gold membership of the "owner".

So let's say "Grandchild1" owns the Gold membership, and "Grandchild2" doesn't. They each play on "Xbox One console 1" and "Xbox One Console 2" respectively.

So Grandchild 1 with the Gold membership signs in on the OTHER console (i.e. Console 2, owned by Grandchild 2), and sets Console 2 as their "Home Console". This Console 2 now shares Grandchild 1's Gold membership and games to anyone playing on Console 2.

As long as Grandchild 1 is connected online on any other console (i.e. his own Console 1) he still has his own Gold membership and Games.

BEWARE HOWEVER! The Home Console setting can only be changed 5 times during 365 days for every account! So don't change the Home Console setting unnecessarily.

You could cancel the Gold membership (or let it run out) on your parent account, and have one kid that usually plays on Xbox 2 give a new Gold membership.

Then have that "Gold kid" set the Xbox 1 as their Home Console, while they play on Xbox 2.

That way your account (that isn't Gold anymore) doesn't have to be signed in on the "non-Home Console", and as the "Gold kid" is playin on Xbox 2 anyways, they will share Gold to that console, as long as they are signed in on that console, while the Home
Console sharing keeps Xbox 1 golden for everyone.

The Xbox One console allows a Gold membership holder to share their Gold access with one entire Xbox One console, whomever is playing on it. While the Free member is playing online with the Home Gold console, the Gold member can then play online at the
same time using another console that is not set up with Home Gold. Therefore, 1 Gold membership can cover two consoles.

still having issues. Set gold account 1 console 1 to non home, and non gold account 2 console 2 to home which was working last night, but this morning same issue again non gold account holder can't play online unless account 1 signs in and then throws
the other xbox out due to being sign in to 2 xbox's. cheers Darren

Lets see if I can explain this to you

No matter what console a profile is signed into it will always be able to play its digital games and use any of its subscriptions (gold, ea access, gamepass). Each profile can set One console set as its home console and any other profile on that console
can then play its games and use its subscriptions.

Each profile can only change which console it has set as its home console FIVE times a year.

So lets look at your situation.

A1= Account 1 (with gold)

C1= Console 1

A2= Account 2 (without gold)

C2= Console 2

So if you set C2 as A1 home console everyone with a profile on that console can play A1s games and use A1s subscriptions.

On C1 ONLY A1 would be able to play his games and use his subscriptions unless he is signed in at the same time.

So in order for A2 to play the game and he wants to play it on C2 you would have to make sure that A1 has C2 set as his home console.
