2 XBOX One Consoles, 3 accounts, 1 XBOX Live account - How do you make this work?

Both my sons have their own XBOX One consoles and their own gamertags. I have a third gamertag which has our XBOX Live account on it. My account is for parental controls only, otherwise I do not use it. We had followed instructions online to initially
set this up, and it worked for several months, then it stopped working. I have no idea why it stopped working, so switched my sons account to the Home account on his XBOX One console, and his started working again, however my other sons account then said
he needed an XBOX Live account, so I switched it back. We have a Comcast Xfiniti router at home (not sure if that matters, but read a post where someone said you may have to use a different port if you have two XBOX Ones (with certain routers).

If anyone has clear instructions on how to make this work (without having to buy another XBOX Live subscription), that would be great.

You have 2 console 3 account

Account 1 (with subscription)
Account 2
Account 3

Console A
Console B

Account 1 that owns the subscription will classify console B as the primary one from that all accounts on console B will have access to the subscription

which means that account 2 or 3 on console B will have xbox live and all

in return Account 1 will be the only one able to use the xbox live on console A

If you want account 2 and 3 to play together, you will need one of the two subscribers

If you just added it (within the past 30 days) you can try contacting support to see if they can cancel the subscription and give you a token for the remaining time to add to one of the other accounts.
http://support.xbox.com/contact-us I know they used to do that, but I'm not sure if they still do. Otherwise there is no way to move it.

Thank you, that is very helpful. Do you know if I can move my XBOX Live subscription off of my account to one of my son's accounts? I don't let them play with my account, because then they would have no screen time limits.

I only have 2 XBOX One consoles. The XBOX Live account is associated with my account which I use for parental controls on my two sons accounts. They each use their own separate account to play on their own XBOX One console.

Sorry, I read it as 3 consoles. In that situation you would actually want to purchase gold on one of your son's account. As it's set up now, you can set one of the consoles as your Home and share the gold there, but the other console would not be able to
access the gold. If you buy gold on your son's account, they can set one of the consoles as their Home to share the gold with the other son, then continue using the gold while signed in on the non-Home console.

Unfortunately, there is no way to make it work across 3 consoles without buying at least 2 subscriptions. Gold can only be shared on 1 console at a time. So the person who owns the gold would have to set one console as their Home, then they can use another
console, and then another account would need gold for the 3rd console. You can only have 1 console set as your Home at a time.
