    It's been awhile since I played that game, but I know in most lego games you just have to turn on the second controller then press the button on the right of the Xbox Jewel (also known as the Hamburger button)

    If you aren't able to get split screen and are using some sort of HD cable (HDMI, VGA, or Component), then check your display settings on the Xbox. Make sure the resolution is set as high as your TV will allow as the split screen does not work with Standard
    Definition settings (480p). This will also make the rest of your games look better.

    From what I here, connecting an hdmi cable will allow multiplayer offline. you will need multiple controllers/accounts, however.
