    Hi Microsoft / Xbox Support,

    TL;DR: Forza Horizon 5 on Steam hard-crashes every time it tries to complete Microsoft-account two-factor authentication. I have spent an entire afternoon of my fiancée’s rare day off, in which we planned to play co-op together, performing every recommended fix I can find—right down to credential purges and runtime repairs—and the game still will not run. I need a real solution (or my money back).

    What happens

    Game launches → Xbox Live sign-in overlay appears.

    I click “Sign in” → small browser window flashes “Loading…” → momentarily sends a number-match push to Microsoft Authenticator →

    The overlay immediately closes, FH5 reports “You must be signed in to continue,” freezes, and then crashes to desktop.

    Loop is 100 % repeatable.

    Everything I have already tried (in order)

    Reduced Windows display scaling to 100 % so I could finally see the sign-in pane
    Pane visible, problem persists

    Ctrl + R / F5 on the pane, Alt+Enter to windowed, Steam overlay toggles
    No change

    Signed in/out through Xbox app & Microsoft Store
    Auth completes there; FH5 still crashes

    Deleted every Xbox-Live credential in Credential Manager (XblDeviceKey, XblTicket, etc.)
    No change

    Ran PowerShell script to stop TokenBroker, deleted %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\*\TokenBroker\Accounts folders, restarted service, rebooted Xbox app showed “Sign in” (as expected), FH5 still crashes

    Verified Windows time & time-zone are automatic

    Attempted WebView2 Evergreen installer repair (component now hidden in Win 11) Installer reports runtime already installed, no repair

    Verified integrity of FH5 files in Steam 0 files failed; game still crashes

    FULL reinstall of Forza Horizon 5 via Steam Fresh download, same crash

    Total time invested: ~4 hours of what should have been actual game-time with my partner.

    My system
    OS: Windows 11 Pro 23H2

    CPU: Intel Core i7-13700K

    GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4090 (Driver 576.80 WHQL)

    RAM: 64 GB DDR5-5600

    FH5 Version: Steam build v3.618.760 (latest hot-fix, 12 Mar 2025)

    Gaming Services: 19.84.3002.0

    Edge WebView2 Runtime: 131.0.2700.xx (system-level)

    What I need from you
    A confirmed working fix (registry key, patched runtime, replacement DLL, etc.) that actually lets the game complete the 2FA flow.

    Failing that, a refund or equivalent credit for a title I literally cannot play despite owning top-tier hardware and spending hours on official troubleshooting steps.

    A clear statement on whether an upcoming Forza patch or Windows update will address this widespread WebView2/Xbox Live crash loop.

    I’ve paid for the game, and invest significant time (and GPU power) in your ecosystem. Today that investment bought me hours of forced tech-support duty instead of a rare co-op session with my fiancée. Please salvage the experience.

    Download speeds make no sense.

    On Xbox, it's Forza Horizon 5. On Steam I tried Payday 2, on Epic I tried some random game I forgot.

    Forza Horizon 5 gets stuck on preparing and then cancles - Windows 11

    This is what helped me and got Forza to download.
    1. Go into the Microsoft Store and search Forza Horizon 5 Standard Edition.
    2. Next you want to click on Forza Horizon 5 Standard Edition and you want to click Install from the Xbox app.
    3. This will take you to the Xbox app and when it takes you to the Forza game scroll down and look at the tab named "Included in this bundle" And click Forza Horizon 5.
    4. This should take you to the regular Forza Horizon 5 game rather than the Standard Edition, And then you want to click install and this should download the game.

    Incomplete download, after reboot cannot download nor can i free up space

    4. This should take you to the regular Forza Horizon 5 game rather than the Standard Edition, And then you want to click install and this should download the game.
