2 Consoles Sharing The Same Ports. NAT Problem

I own a Ps4 which I have port forwarded on my bridged Asus RTN56U router. I recently bought an Xbox One but am struggling to understand how I establish open NAT when the required ports are already being forwarded to another console. I read that a good solution
would be to keep the PS4 port forwarding and then put the Xbox in the DMZ but that configuration is still giving me strict NAT on the Xbox.

Does anyone have any other suggestions that I could try? Both consoles are connected to my router by ethernet cable and get good connection but it's just the strict NAT on Xbox that troubles me.

    :)

    Port forwarding question

I have discovered why my X1 reports a Strict or Moderate NAT sometimes and it's after one of the 360s uses one of the ports the X1 needs. As soon as a Live port is used for a 360 via UPnP, 3074 for example, the X1 drops to Strict.

This is exactly the reason why I use UPnP, because if 360 1 is using 3074, UPnP will map 360 2 to a different port number that grants the same access as 3074 allowing both to communicate with the Live service at the same time, thus granting an Open NAT to all connected 360s. The X1 is not triggering port forwarding via UPnP to utilise this feature, so is the device that suffers when a 360 is in use.

The PS3 used to have a UPnP enable/disable option on the console itself, which I thought was odd, but perhaps if the 360 had this, enabling it would tell the console to use UPnP, which once it uses UPnP to trigger the ports I'm sure it will resolve the multiple device issue.

    For reference:

    • When I have an Open NAT, the X1's Detailed NAT Information says: Your network is behind a cone NAT
    • When I have a Moderate NAT, the X1's Detailed NAT Information says: Your network is behind a port-restricted NAT
    • When I have a Strict NAT, the X1's Detailed NAT Information says: Your network is behind a port-preserving port-symmetric NAT

    Help Port forwarding xbox 360

Ok so I decided to port forward my Xbox because I've been lagging a lot in some games. My NAT type is moderate right now, I connect to Xbox live by using windows Internet Connection Sharing. I port forward the
Xbox live ports to my computer then I went to advanced settings and port forwarded the same ports to my Xbox 360 I'm not sure if I'm doing this right but I can not port forward port 80 because this is being used by "Web Server (HTTP)" and I cant change it
I'm wondering if this is the problem or if I'm not doing this right if you have gotten open NAT on your Xbox 360 by using Windows Internet Connection Sharing please help me.

2 Consoles Sharing The Same Ports. NAT Problem

Try forwarding the xbox live ports and instead put the PS4 in the DMZ. Worth a shot.

Remember the Xbox live ports are as follows:

    53

    80

    3074

    88

    500

    3544

    4500

Also remember to set a static IP address on your xbox one network settings.

Yes both consoles are assigned static IP.

The problem is with port 3074. If I forward that port to the xbox it gives me open NAT but the PS4 also requires 3074 for open NAT and I can't forward to both.

Does your router support Upnp? (Universal plug in and play) If yes, I would try just disabling the port forwarding rules for the time being and just enable Upnp. This should detect the required ports for whatever game/app you are using at that time and will
open them. (This is pretty unreliable however) but worth a shot.

Secondly, you said you have tried setting up putting your xbox in the DMZ but you still got a strict NAT. This should not happen if you set it up correctly. You need to make sure your Xbox one has a static IP which can be set-up on the console in network
settings. You should also reserve the Xbox One's IP in your routers settings.

Also remember a reboot of both your router and Xbox is required for any changes to take effect.

I haven't had great success with UPnP. It's quite unreliable, as you say.

I don't understand why the DMZ doesn't work. The consoles have static IPs and I always restart everything after I make any changes. It's possible that the DMZ function just doesn't work properly on my router or wont work in conjunction with port forwarding.
I have been reading that perhaps port triggering is a solution for that port but that is something I will have to read a lot more into.

UPNP is unreliable on the router you have , it works quite well on a gaming router designed for multiple consoles (Netgear)

  9. Best thing to do on this case is contact you ISP on this issue.

  10. I doubt the isp will help , in my experience, they will have you go to a Web page , do a speed test and then say "your Internet is fine "...if you persist , you can go to "advanced support" which will cost you about the same price as a new router ...

I am trying to understand your network completely. You say your Asus RTN56U router is bridged? Does that mean you are using another device for NATing (ISP Device (Modem)) your traffic? If so, what you might try is putting the other device in bridge mode
and letting your router do the NAT for you. Just a thought.

By bridged I mean that it is bridged to the modem that the ISP provides. It is correctly bridged and all devices are wired directly to the router. The only problem I have is having two consoles share the same port without using upnp.

Your isp I'd probably charging you 10 bucks a month for that modem , I would go get my own equipment and give theirs back... saving money and solving problem....win, win..

As far as I'm aware the modem isn't contributing a huge deal to this setup. I could be wrong but in bridged mode I was under the impression that the router is handling all NAT.

  15. That's usually the case , but, i have seen isp issued equipment do some strange things ...if you are renting their modem for 10 bucks a month like I was , the money you would save in one year would buy you a modem and a router.. .then if need be , you could
call netgear support for free since you have a new router but i doubt you would need to...
