2.0 USB External Hard drive KO after the last update

After the last update my external hard drive doesn´t work! Always it worked without problems. I have read in a few forums and I´m not the only one user with this problem.

Hi I had a usb 2.0 flash drive worked great with movies I wanted more space so I bought a external hard drive it has usb 2.0 and usb 3.0 I plug it it my computer which is usb 2.0 put the movies on it then put it in my xbox one the movies skip but when I
play it on my computer through the external hard drive it works fine no skipping could this be because of putting movies usb 2.0 and then playing them on usb 3.0?

 

after update Xbox One won't recognize USB drive

I have an external USB 2.0 hard drive I have been using to stream media. This worked fine before the update, but since the update my Xbox won't recognize the drive is even connected. Any ideas?

can you confirm (looking at the title) whether your external hard drive uses USB2.0 or USB3.0?

Only external hard drives that use USB 3.0 will work with the Xbox One. Make sure it meets all the requirements listed here:

support.xbox.com/.../console-doesnt-detect-external-storage

 

Its not true. After the update works fine! Only used for movies and music but perfect. Now is not possible.

 

Ah my apologies, you are using it in media storage mode.

Are you able to connect the external hard drive to a PC or laptop? If so please do and see if you can view the drive's contents on the PC/laptop. Feedback here how you get on.

Also, when connected to the Xbox One console, does the drive spin up?

 

In my laptop appears as Generic USB Device - Microsoft 21/06/2006 Version 6.1.7600.16385.

In XBOX the drive spin up and a led flashing.

Are you able to browse the contents of the external hard drive on the PC/Laptop?

It's been a while since I used an external hdd on Windows, but if I remember correctly it should be showing up as a USB Mass Storage Device rather than a Generic USB Device.

 

Yes, can browse without problem on Win7. In fact, in Xbox one as well before update.

 

Hmm that is odd,

The only other thing I could suggest is:

• If your console uses Instant-On mode, unselect the "When Xbox is off, turn off storage" option in the consoles power options.
  

Apart from that I cant see a reason why it would not be working. Hopefully the Forum Support team will be along soon and can investigate this issue further.

Just adding that I am having the exact same issue. I use a 128GB USB 3 flash drive for movies. It's always worked without incident until the latest update. Now it completely fails to recognize the drive. I can see its receiving power. I've tried both USB
ports as well. The drive is recognized and works just fine in my Mac and Windows based PC.

 

There have been reports of this since the NXOE update, which may very well be a bug affecting only some users, unfortunately if this is the case not a lot can be done until a patch is released.

support.xbox.com/contact-us or tweeting @XboxSupport on Twitter, the more users reporting this the quicker it'll be fixed
