    1st Generation XBox


    Got the first gen. Xbox out of the closet and tried to fire it up for some nostalgia. When powered up the power button flashes red and the unit won't boot up. Any ideas on whats wrong and how to fix?

    Try sticking a hoover to the air vents (to clear the dust), sounds a bit stupid but worked for me on two separate consoles back in the day :)

    Hi,

    If the power button flashes red on your original Xbox it means that the one or more of the console's EEPROM's (Electrically Erasable, Programmable Read Only Memory) chips can not be read or is corrupt.

    Not something that can be easily fixed, especially if you're not technically hardware inclined. Now I build and upgrade my own gaming PCs, but I wouldn't feel that confident about fixing something like this.

    However, there are lots of repair guides online,
    ifixit     is a great source and so is YouTube. But if this all seems beyond your capabilities, time or patience (believe me, you'll need a lot of patience lol), then I suggest you search around for a console repair company.

    Gamestop offers a trade in deal to newer Xbox systems, also with the holidays coming up check with them to see what deals they have also, If you do not have a Gamestop check with your local Game store.

    no its not on the S. It's only Xbox One (1st generation 2014 Era) released xboxs that are being reduced to black screens. Microsoft wants us to buy new ones
