1. 174+ ping all the time

    Hello,

After running the Network Stats test on my xbox 360, I always get a ping of 170 -180 every time. My upload is about .8 and download around 13-15 mbs. I Am connecting using the Xbox N wireless adaptor.

However, my wireless laptop and PC are having no issues with high ping at all, tested just now I get 31 ms - Download speed 14 Mbps / upload 0.74 mbps.

I plugged my xbox 360 directly to the router via cable, but still get a ping on 170+. So it doesn't appear to be a router/internet issue, but rather with the xbox hardware, or is the server I am pinging in the west coast US?

I regularly get disconnected from XBL when playing games / using Netflix. So can anyone explain why I am getting very high ping only on my xbox 360 (white one

) and how to fix it. I've tried reducing the firewall level in my routerm but no joy.

    Thanks.

    :)

    Frequent Disconnecting from Xbox Live

Ok, first of all do this:-
    www.unofficialguidetolive.co.uk/.../174-motorola-surfboard-sbg6580-high-ping-packet-loss

Also set your Xbox ip address back to auto (and your PC's if you had that as a static as well) and use this to reserve an ip address instead of using a manual one:-

    screenshots.portforward.com/.../Basic_DHCP.htm

You can enter the mac address of your Xbox www.unofficialguidetolive.co.uk/.../64-where-do-i-find-my-xbox-mac-address and reserve it an ip address
    that way

Also you are over configuring your router, UPnP, DMZ, Portforwarding all do the same thing for the Xbox, you should only use one of those and turn off the others. Try just UPnP on its own with no DMZ and no forwarding.

Make the changes above and power off and on the modem and see how that goes

    174+ ping all the time

A modem usually has a firewall as well so perhaps the signal is having trouble getting through 2 firewalls. Double check that you only have one firewall set up to see if that helps.

You could also try powercycling the modem/router by unplugging for 10 seconds.

  5. The only firewall between the Xbox and the router is the router firewall, is that not the case. I have reset the router many times, still it gives a high ping.
or is the server I am pinging in the west coast US?
Yes it is and to be more precisely, Seattle, WA.

You can also do a traceroute using your console. This way you can more easily follow how the ICMP packets traverse each hop to its final destination. It also sends out three ping for each hop to determine if there's slow link in the chain.

Each hop represent a link in the chain.

Go to Xbox Network settings. Select your connection type and press the following combo on your controller:

LT RT RT LT RB LB and select a given server.

  7. I've encountered the exact same problem and found no solution whatsoever. Tried the same things as you, been calling my internet provider, rebooting the router, opening different ports etc. Ping still is at 170-ish, and it's just the Xbox that's the problem.
Otherwise my ms is at a stable 10. Been searching the web and this is the one place I've found where someone else have struggled with the same thing. Did you find a way to solve it?
