  1. 1440p @ 120hz used to work, but doesn’t now.

Hi, I used my Samsung monitor (Model C27JG56QQN) to run 1440p @ 120Hz with my Xbox Series X in the past playing some of the Call of Duty games. I Recently moved the Xbox back to my monitor because Apex Legends is about to upgrade to 120Hz gameplay for console. I now can’t get my console to accept my monitor at 1440p @ 120Hz. I’m connected to the HDMI 2 port which is the correct one. I’ve been able to do this in the past and confused on why I can’t now. Any suggestions? Was it because of an Xbox update/down date in my case?

    :)

    Hello Patrick,

There is 1 main problem about this.

After looking up this monitor, it says it should be capable of running these graphics. Try check your settings:

    1. Open Settings

    2. Go to General

    3. Select 'TV & display options'

    4. Make sure your resolution is at the maximum.

    5. To be very sure, on this screen, select '4K TV details' and see if your TV supports it.

Xbox One X on the LG C9 Oled TV doesn’t use HDR for resolutions other than 4K

Are you sure about that? Microsoft doesn’t mention this anywhere. I’ve seen reports from people with 1440p HDR monitors who said were able to use HDR@1440p in Xbox...

I do believe it’s a bug in the Xbox, on 4k TVs it doesn’t allow HDR for lower resolutions.

My use case for using 1440p@120Hz is because of much lower input lag and also less tearing and judder (the TV supports VRR). But losing HDR kills it.

Microsoft should fix this. Perhaps there wasn’t a use case for it before, but now a lot of 4K TVs (Samsung and LG) are popping up with 1440p@120Hz and it’s actually a better experience than 4k@60Hz.

    Xbox one s 1440p 120hz problems

I have tried turning freesync off on the monitor side and vrr off on the xbox, still doesn’t allow me to select 1440p@ 120hz.
That’s frustrating, only thing i can now think to suggest is that to ensure your xbox is fully up to date and after turning off freesync on the monitor. Fully restart the console and try again. Maybe only the XBox One X supports 1440p @ 120Hz?

I have recently brought a 165hz monitor to use with Xbox series s but I cannot turn on 165hz

Hi Arturo, I’ve tried 1080p with 120hz, and it doesn’t work. 720 didn’t work either. I’m using the hdmi cable that came with my Xbox series s. The monitor I am using with my Xbox is purchased new, and is 165hz and 1440p. Is the issue with the hdmi cable I am using or my monitor?

    Thanks

    Amanda
