1408 update erased my hard drive 7/30

Idunno what happened yesterday around 4:00 western time, but my xbox was prompted to do an update, 1400mb worth of update, after it finished it restarted and said it needed ANOTHER update (350 mb) and when that finished it reset my console, did a factory
reset and I had to redo all my region settings and security bs, then sign into Microsoft which failed repeatedly for two hours yesterday at the time xbox live was down (thanks for telling us), when it finally goes back up I learn all my information and games
have been wiped clear off my xbox, leaving me with over 100 gigs of info to reinstall yesterday and today and tomorrow and clear through the weekend... Awesome.... Forza installation keeps stopping which is getting really annoying, and I'm stuck here babysitting
the whole process... AND, before these two updates I had already gotten an update a few days prior, and my xbox still says it needs an update, which I'm totally afraid to do now!!

WHY DID THIS HAPPEN?!?!? And did anyone else have this problem?! Im entered into the beta program, so is this part of being a guinea pig?! Since this last update my xbox has lagged a whole lot more, and then, this....

Explanations from a "credible" source would be awesome sauce..

Memory erased

I just did a required system update and it erased all of my internal memory and on the external hard drive. Can it be restored?

Sounds very weird. Ive never heard of anything like that before. Maybe try contacting support

 

It was a known issue that affected a small number of people. It happens. You signed up and agreed to test out updates before their official release and stuff like this happens. Unfortunate, but it happens. At least these days, all your save data is saved.

The updates you are downloading are completely untested. It's your job to test out these updates and work through the slowness or the bugs and stuff like that. It's not just a chance to experience new things early. When you signed up for it, you were given
access to the Early Access forums, and it's an issue that was posted in there and the team at Microsoft has responded a few times with updates on it and from what I understand, the issue was fixed pretty quickly last night. You were just one of the unlucky
ones.

 

There were a few posts regarding this yesterday, and yes, it seems to be attached to the beta programme, from what I read not all beta testers were affected, just some, I would head to the beta forum, I cannot link you as I asked to removed from the beta
before the last update, I'm kind of happy about that too, I would have been very annoyed to experience this.
