  1. 120hz with Variable refresh rate

I have a HANNSPREE Hg324qjb monitor connected to my Series X and this monitor is capable of 1440p 120hz with freesync. I can only get 1080p with 120hz refresh rate and I can only get this by by overriding the auto detect settings to HDMI but it won't allow variable refresh rate to be ticked so the picture is choppy.

I have tried turning freesync on and off on the monitor and neither allows me to select vrr.

I don't mind only having the 1080p but ideally would like 1440p but the choppy picture at 120hz is horrible. Surely there has to be a way of manually turning this on?

    :)

How to enable variable refresh rate?

May I also point out that to enable VRR (Variable Refresh rate), you also need VRR capable TV or monitor.

VRR works on both 60Hz and 120Hz.

xbox series x not recognizing 4K at 60 fps

    Hi,

Your TV is working normally and supports 4K/60.

The up to native 1080 at 120 FPS is not a glitch. The vizio p65-f1 can actually do 120Hz at 1080P. This why this is here. However, don't get too excited. While 120Hz is supported, the TV does not do VRR (variable refresh rate). Without VRR, a 120Hz refresh
will not be smooth for gaming.

    120hz setting on 60hz tv

    Hi,

It's because your TV isn't 120Hz. TV's with true 120Hz support have HDMI 2.1, your TV is 2.0b. The console may be mistaking this TV's Frame Interpolation as a 120Hz mode, but it isn't.

There's no way to get 120Hz on that TV. And, even if you could, it would be horrible without Variable Refresh Rate tech.

1440p@120Hz WITH HDR on Xbox Series X ?

    Hi,

What ngocphi has said is somewhat true but not entirely. I'm sure they mean well but I little more explanation is required.

The Asus VG32VQ can do 120Hz at 1440P, however, the VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) FreeSync on this display tops out at 85Hz over HDMI. So for Xbox, 1440P 120Hz and VRR is a no go. You should be able to get to 120Hz with VRR at 1080P though.

The inability to do 1440P @ 120Hz is a limitation of your display's hardware, nothing to do with the older HDMI 2.0 port.

Most of these monitors rated refresh is based on their Display Port hardware.

    Variable Refresh Rate

DisplayPort doesn't affect picture quality in any way. It's a digital transport for a video signal. The same hardware interprets the signal at the end. The only reason it's still around is apparently it has additional features for multiple displays. Likely you have different settings on that input which makes it look "better"

It can't do VRR because there needs to be bidirectional communication between the device and the display. They need to tell each other how to adjust things
