  1. 120hz not working with Xbox Series X and Samsung Series 8 TV

    Hi,

I have the Xbox Series X and a 75" Samsung Tv (Year: 2017, Model: UN75MU8000). I have confirmed that the TV supports 4K and 120hz (240 motion rate as Samsung refers to it). On my TV I have "Game Mode" and "HDMI UHD Color" turned on. My TV
    firmware is up to date.

In my Xbox Series X, when I go to my display settings to view my TV details, it states that 120 hz is not supported (all other options are supported). I went through pretty much all of my TV settings and Xbox settings and can't get the 120 hz to work.

Has anyone else run into this issue and know of a solution?

I am hoping Samsung just needs to release a new firmware update.....

    Thanks for the help.

    :)

120hz not working with Xbox Series X and Samsung Series 8 TV

    Thanks for the quick responses!

I knew that I had HDMI 2.0, but my hope was I would be able to run games at a lower resolution and a higher refresh rate.

When I look at my TV details on the Xbox it shows under:

    - "TV Resolution" that my TV does not support 4K UHD (120hz)

    - "Playing games" that my TV does not support 120 hz

I tried manually changing the resolution down to 1080p and disabling 4K under video mode, but it still shows that 120 hz is not available.

Do you know if it possible to run a lower res and get higher than 60 frame rates? I'm curious if this is just how it gets displayed in the Xbox settings, but then different games will automatically run at different resolutions and different frames rates?

Any thoughts? Or do I just need to get a better TV?

    Thanks again.

It's true, sadly. You need the bandwidth that HDMI 2.1 (only on 2019 and newer TVs, I'd say) offers in order to play 4K@120FPS.
