120hz not working on my monitor

Iv been having this problem with bot being able to select 120hz when my xbox one s is hooked up to my monitor. (Asus vg248qz).

I found out that this particular monitor only supports the full 144hz through the 'DisplayPort'. Thst being said, i i bought a DisplayPort to HDMI cable . (DisplayPort on one end and HDMI on the other)because xbox does not have a DisplayPort. I plugged this
into my setup and all i get is a "no signal" message on my monitor. So it doesnt even read a singal at all. (It is worth the work in my case because i play slot of UFC 3, and the more frames THE BETTER for that game 100%)

So with all that information, is there something im doing wrong? My monitors hdmi port only supports up to 76hz and the DisplayPort supports up to 144hz. Do i need to teturn this monitor for one that supports the full 144hz through hdmi? (which will probably
cost more money than iv already spent) Or is there a way around this so i can use this one i have and save a little money?? Please help, i would really like to use this monitor!

    :)

Why is my Acer LCD monitor KG272 165HZ not working?

you need a monitor that shows exactly 120hz in the edid information, if it shows 119.86 which a lot of monitors do then it will not work, there are monitors out that are designed to work with consoles now that have the exact standards.

pc can pretty much use anything, consoles can't.

    My monitor supports 60, 75, 85, 90, 120, 144, 165, used this on my series s and 120hz works fine as 120 is exactly 120hz.

xbox series s cant display 1440p@120hz on monitor that can display 1440p@180hz

the monitor must have exact 120hz listed in its edid for the xbox to work with it, pc's can use any refresh rate and are not fixed, but a lot of gaming monitors have 119.3hz listed or roughly that, so if 120hz is not in the edid then you cannot use 120hz on that monitor.

My Xbox series S won't run at 1440p 120fps even if my monitor says it can.

the monitor may support 144hz but as the xbox needs 120hz exact then most likely the monitors EDID (built in res list) does not include 120hz precisely.

PC's can be set to any res and the monitor will accept this if within range, consoles work via edid and vesa compliance meaning if the monitor does not include 120hz for that res in its list it won't work.

Your actually wromg. Im gettkng extremely high frame rates now since i exchanged my monitor for one that had an hdmi that supports the full 144hz. My monitor that i had before woukd only support thay refresh rate through DisplayPort and only about 74hz
theough HDMI. So that was my problem. But you were right about the hdmi to DisplayPort not working, but thats only because xbox doesnt support the conversion. It qould support a dvi to HDMI but im.not wanting to do that. I just exchange my monitor for a different
one whete i actually know what to look for and it works.

The xbox does not support high refresh rate monitors in the way you think. Also a display port to hdmi port will not work in the way you are trying to use it.

Xbox only supports up to 60 FPS with many only being 30FPS - so having a 144hz screen does nothing for you. In fact the high refresh rate will cause issues with miss matched refresh rates on the screen and output FPS of the xbox. Which will degrade your
    gaming experience.
