120Hz gaming opportunities at 1440p - which console?

So far I've only seen one 120Hz (up to 120fps) based game in action and that was Dirt 5. Dirt 5 can get to 120 fps on Series S as well as Series X. However, the fact remains that the Series S has both a weaker GPU and less system memory. The likely outcome
being more high refresh supported games on Series X than Series S.

You'll be able to use use 120Hz on Series S, but not all games will be able to take full advantage of it.

it will connect at 120hz but i think most games will target 60fps 1440 as the xbox one struggled to get 40fps in some games and xbox one x struggled to maintain 60fps most of the time.

The great thing with the Series S is the library goes with you on your account. So, even if you only get the Series S now, some time in the future you could 'upgrade' to a Series X and all your games will come with you as long as you know your account details.

As for performance scaling I'm a big fan of a YouTube Channel called Digital Foundry (they've got 1 million subscribers). They're my go to for performance scaling between consoles. At the moment DF have only been focusing on the Series X, however I they
are going to be making Series S videos available soon. Heck, I might even sub to their patreon to see them early!

I've only got a Series S coming, plus 1TB expansion card. I only went for that because I couldn't get the X on pre-order day. I'll be getting a Series X when it becomes more available though. Not sure when that will be. I'm also a PC gamer and I'm looking
at upgrading my RTX 2080 for an RTX3070. Higher end PC gaming always beats consoles. But I still play on both.

In terms of hardware there are three differences between S and X. These are RAM, GPU capabilities and included storage. Their processor spec is identical. There won't be any processor bottlenecks between both systems. Series X has 16GB RAM and a 4K capable
GPU. Series S has 10GB RAM and its GPU is targeting 1440 max.

That is a shame as I was hoping for a lot of high refresh rate action. I'll definitely be checking out the supported titles regardless

I see, I have a 1440p screen which supports high frame rates coming in the mail in prep for the console I'm just wondering which option is the best. If you could think of the two consoles as a weaker/stronger PC it would be an obvious choice, I just didn't
know what the Xbox architecture would be like with their performance scaling.
