12 hours and still installing from disc

AAAARRRGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!....................MICROSOOOOOOFFFTTTTT.....this is absolute BS I got this game in the mail today at 11am started installing around 230pm and it's 2:51am and it's only at 82% percent this is really disappointing.Microsoft you
have to come up with a faster way to install game's cause this just is not exceptable at all a flagship title like halo and it takes me more than half a day to be able to play it not exceptable PS4 games never take this long to install are you trying to force
me to PS4 cause this experience I'm having right now with this install will make me jump ship Ive never been this disappointed in all my years.THE ABSOLUTE WORST INSTALL OF A GAME EVEEEERRRRR.I really need to hear from some one at Microsoft about this cause
I might have to take this to social media big time.I'm not happy at all.

This is something that is actively being investigated and worked on.

Im at 44 Percent...and its been about 15-20 mins

 

It's a problem with your internet connection.

Either you have a slow internet connection

Or your DNS settings are directing you to an extremely slow download server.

My guess would be you are using your ISP's default DNS. In my case i'm with BT and their DNS servers are pathetic.

To get a decent download speed I had to switch to another DNS.

Try googleDNS by going into network settings and changing the DNS to primary 8.8.8.8 and secondary 8.8.4.4

and then saving and restarting the console.

You could also try openDNS. Can't remember what they are but you can find them through google,

you know what I don't even think the game is on the disc the disc is just confirming I own the game and the game is being downloaded from the internet and if that is the case then we have a problem Houston why sell me a disc that the game isn't even on and
then don't make sure consumers know that cause I'm looking at my bandwith usage and its downloading around 3gigs or so an hour and if the actual game was on disc why would it need to download.....this is very sketchy on microsofts part if I'm buying a physical
copy of a game it better be on the disc i'm gonna investigate this this is a real problem.

 

The game certainly is on the disc – and it took me less than 45 minutes to install it, day one patch and all. The latter seems to be your problem: The game needs a 9 GB patch, which (obviously) is not on the disc.

A game update downloads at the same time as the disc installs.

Bad DNS servers can send you to a slow download server.

It's a right pain. It's as though an ISP sends all it's customers to the same download servers causing massive slow downs as everyone is trying to download at the same time.

Changing DNS means you can get sent to a different download server which makes a massive difference in speed.

I've had this problem on both my xbox one and ps4 and annoys the hell out of me having to regularly change DNS settings.

 

I don't care how large the download is, because there shouldn't be one at all this close to release. If the game isn't done, then delay and release later when it is done.

A 9Gb update immediately upon inserting the disc is an most unwelcome and nasty surprise. The fact remains that I paid for a game that I cannot play, at least not until I download an enormous update. I received my game today, waited until my little one went
to bed, then inserted the Halo disc, only to find that I cannot play it until tomorrow. I can't stay up half the night waiting for a stupid download.

I did not buy the digital edition and I resent having it forced upon me.

I've been an XBL member for over a decade but this is the last straw. I've cancelled my Fallout 4 and other holiday pre-orders and I will be getting rid of both of my Xbox One boxes. This is beyond ridiculous and I will not tolerate it.

 

@Kenai Coder I’m afraid that day one patches have become more of a norm than an exception – on all platforms. This being said, 9 GB still seems like an excessive amount of fixing… On the bright side, it seems that “Halo 5” seems to work just fine (despite
it being a tad mediocre), which, sadly, can’t be said of every other big MP title…

Lot's of users are having exactly the same issues. This is not isolated and most of the responses you got FOXDIE 36 aren't helpful at all. But I sympathise with you been trying to install for the last 12 hours as well.
