    100% packet loss HELP!

    Hello DullBrush765263!

Would you mind providing a little more info on what type of router you have? This can be due to the router's firewall blocking out the necessary info your xbox needs. Here is a link on how to configure your router to your xbox.

    forums.xbox.com/.../default.aspx

Just select your router/modem/gateway and follow the steps needed.

It is not your routers firewall it is on the MS side. I received 100% packet loss when they were under a DDoS on Christmas. I would just turn off your Xbox unplug it because it has a few levels of powered down and you want the nic off. Then reboot your network
equiptment then when it's fully rebooted turn on your Xbox again. That should clear you out and clear out and active connections with Microsoft as well.

    100% packet loss HELP!

Routers firewall is really basic it wouldn't block any Xbox traffic. Even is all the ports were not properly forwarded it still wouldn't have anything to do with ICMP. That's real basic and always allowed.

Also, Xbox's send UDP and TCP req's. Which is blocked by a router's firewall.

  12. Is that a modem/ router? The router in the combo modems stop working well after a while. I have a 2 wire combo modem/router. Had to set a router behind it and place it outside the 2 wire's firewall for it to work.Hope this helped

Your right firewalls can cause problems but most of not all consumer class routers firewalls are a joke and will not cause any issues. Especially with UnPNP. I am not posting false information I am posting relevant information. I am a network engineer not
a run of the mill IT guy. Technicolor is one of many router/modems comcast use they also use arris, Motorola, pace, etc. and if UnPNP is enabled the TCP and UDP requests are allowed because the traffic is stateful. Anything in would meet the requirement to
come back. Worst case destination nat is not properly configured (port forwarding) which is again not the firewall. Just a natting issue after that. I received 100% packet loss in my own Xbox one so I know from personal expirence it's not my network. One of
my switches are more expensive then the Xbox one. And I didn't change a single thing with my network when you guys were under a DDoS. The problem is not your fault your doing your job but Saturday you guys were having issues and instead of taking ownership
you pointed towards his equiptment as the issue. Having 50 Meg's down don't seem like a network issue 100% packet loss is the issue. When I am at work and someone complains to me about a network issue and I run a simple ping I don't blame my PC that's on the
network of the ping done go through I blame the other end because I cannot reach them. Then I do a range ping to see if it's the entire vlan or just a single IP. If he is running a speed test and ping through your equiptment and he loses packets it's not his
firewall? He's making the request and any firewall out there is going to allow return traffic so long as it originated from it. The syn and ack in the TCP protocol is really basic that all firewalls can read. So long as they are in order then there is not
issue. Bringing up Xbox requesting with TCP and UDP not only don't apply to this issue, they are two different protocols and are handled differently. Not to be compared when your talking about firewalls. He ran a test from his Xbox got 50 megs down to who
knows where Xbox runs their speedtest from then lost all his long packets to I am sure live servers proving multiplayer is not working properly. So I was not providing false information I was provoding relevant information that would save him the time wasted
going through his equiptment going down that rat hole. It's bad enough I read people replacing their network equiptment over this weekends fiasco. No one else needs to be prompted to do the same because MS cannot stop a DDoS. I could stop a DDoS to my personal
home, my firewall does it automatically. MS seems to be o par with everyone else waits to get burned before they realize security may actually be a job that they have to invest in. Trust me MS won't me the last big company still thinking like security don't
matter. There will be others because the business model seems to be to get burned before they stop playing with Fire. Again nothing against you for doing you job. You just got me in a bad mood I was one of the users not able to play against my child all weekend
in call of duty. Brand new Xbox he was super excited to play his father and MS was asleep at the wheel. I figured it out by 10am est that not only was this a DDoS but MS knew or at least these lizards told everyone earlier in the month this was going to happen.
Where I work not only would this not have happened ( we know better ) but if it did bring down our customers over the weekend someone would have lost their job. If police officers couldn't arrest someone, or if 911 was down, or something effecting public safety
in my line of work. It wouldn't be my line of work any longer. So I look at this is lack luster. Not only handling of the issue but also not taking responsibility.

I bet he's fine now if he didn't tear apart his own network clicking and changing things trying to get it to work. The proper answer would have been MS is having issues right now if your stil having issues ( fill in the time frame your told to fill in )
come back and we will then look at your network equipment. I would have told him wait until Monday because Xbox was spotty all weekend never got a real good game in with my son the entire time. Hopefully the false information his was given didn't make his
own network worse and he's not going to buy new stuff or having to factory reset his stuff trying to get it to work.

Please excuse the grammar I am in my iPhone in bed 2am in the morning. Also don't take my writing for being rude I was just upset and was all weekend. So this forum served as sorta a vent.
