1 Xbox controller connected to PC but showing 2

So I use my Xbox controller on PC for a few games, including EA FC 24, Call of Duty etc.

On EA FC 24 it shows there are 2 controllers connected which is fine as you can do everything as normal (shows the controller I'm using as the 2nd controller connected when I only have 1). However when I try and play Call of Duty, I am unable to use my controller as this mysterious 1st controller is the one that is connected for the menus when there isn't a 2nd controller at all.

Can someone help troubleshoot this issue and give me a fix? Not sure what I need to be doing.

I'm using an Xbox One controller and connected to the USB stick plugged into my PC.

Have had a search around for an answer but not getting anything.

    :)

    Hello James McAra,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

We understand that you are trying to play games on PC however your Xbox One Controller is shown to be two controllers connected. Let’s us check on this together and sort this out in timely manner.

Before we provide you with suggested troubleshooting to try, please provide us details about your concern:

    • May we ask if all of the games installed from Xbox app? Or was it installed from other store?
    • Please provide us screenshots that shows these 2 controllers detected.
    • Will there be two controllers on Xbox Accessories App?

To troubleshoot this issue, you can try the following steps:

    Update device and restart:

Install PC updates including Optional Update. Guide - Update Windows

Restart device to clear your computer’s memory/RAM.

    Disconnect and reconnect controller:

Disconnect the controller from the PC and restart the PC.

Reconnect the controller to the PC and check if the issue persists.

    Update controller:

Launch Xbox Accessories App and install update

If the firmware update does not resolve the issue, try resetting the controller. To do this, press and hold the small button on the back of the controller for 5 seconds, then release it.

    Connect different USB cable:

If none of the above steps work, try using a different USB port on your PC or a different USB cable to connect the controller.

Let us know how it went.

If you have other clarifications about this matter, you can get back to us by replying to this post.

    Sincerely,

Xbox Series X/S controller not pairing to Windows PC

do you have the wireless xbox adapter for pc plugged in (needed for wireless connection), or are you using bluetooth on the pc (needed for bluetooth connection to the controller).

the following three ways to connect the controller:

    1. USB C cable

    2. Bluetooth

    3. Wirelessly using the xbox wireless adapter for windows 10 (about 24.99 from retailers)
