1 xbox account on 2 Xboxes troubleshooting?

My son has 2 xboxes, (1 xbox one at my house & a xbox one S at his mothers).

I created my own account which I used to subscribe to XBox live, he has his own account but with my account being on the same console he can use Xbox live....is this correct?

The same account I created I have added to his other console and he used the same method to play Xbox live on that console also which was working fine at first.

But just within the last couple of days he has told me that he cant connect to Live and all it says is "get more with live gold" or something like that.

I am unable to get access to his console so im after a few tips on what it could be thats stopping it from working so I can pass this onto my son to try.

Any help will be much appreciated.

How to Change your Xbox LIVE account information

Overview

It is possible to change information associated with your Xbox LIVE account like your name, address, phone number or email address.

Note: You cannot change the country that is associated with your Xbox LIVE account. If you have moved to another country and you would like to access Xbox LIVE from there, you have to create a new Xbox LIVE account in your new location.

1) Go to My Account and Sign In with your Microsoft Account. (This is the email and password that is associated with your Xbox LIVE account).

2) Make the changes you want to your billings account information and then click Save.

1) Sign in using your Xbox LIVE gamertag.

2) Proceed to Settings, and then select Account.

3) Select Your Information, and then go to Billing Information.

4) Sign In with your Microsoft account password.

5) Change your billing account information and then click Done.

2 Accounts on 1 Xbox Gold

If I'm on the same console how do i share the gold?

 

He can use your gold subscription because you have one of the consoles set as your Home console. He can only access your gold on that console. He would need his own gold subscription in order to use gold on any console.

 

But I came across the same problem when he first got the new console at his mothers house.

I added my account to that console then he was able to use Xbox live on both consoles until now? How could this have been possible?
