  1. 1 GB Rule

I understand where you're coming from as these day 1 and even prerelease patches are getting larger and larger and that not everyone is lucky enough to have decent internet that doesn't have a data cap. However, it's a trend that may get worse as developers
can send in their game for certification before it's ready a few months before it's scheduled release date and push out 1 or more updates to the game before release to ensure that their game ships on that date as it's easier and quicker to send a patch through
the certification process than a game.

I wouldn't mind the day 1 patches if the game is already 45-50 GB in size in just the single player component and that the patch is to add in the multiplayer as the current maximum data of a Blu-ray disc that the Xbox One can read is 50 GB.(this could be
increased via a system update in theory unless that update fries too many disc drives). If the patch is to just fix 50% of the code or add in things that could have made it to the disc, then it can be frustrating for some people.

It'll get worse with the 9th generation consoles as games could become 250-300 GB(maybe even greater depending on disc format) in size and that a day 1 update could be twice as large than the largest Xbox One game.

Just because YOU don't have data plans doesn't mean other people don't. The ignorance in this thread is astounding.

Haven't visited this thread in a while. Seems the "initial" update for Witcher3 was only 500 or so Megs. I take this a a positive for proving my point.

There needs to be a set limit on initial updates. Basically a determination as to whether a retail game is actually complete upon initial release. Simple request, simple solution. Data caps, internet speeds are all irreverent. Purchasing incomplete products
    are. That is the point.

The only way we can limited download size is make all games on the XBOX store be 1GB long. That means no more 3-D games on XBOX ONE ever again. That Means we never get FALLOUT 4 because 1GB rule. If you going put a limit. You must put it on the game itself
to. Because no matter how you cut it. You will used more then more then 1G.B. I have used over 100GB on one month time two times. That only way you going to applied this rule. Is make every game itself 1GB long. And nothing more.

  6. Why would a 1gb patch rule mean the One doesn't get Fallout 4?

Because you can downloaded it over the store. And to make it sense to have it. Everything must be 1GB long. Even every video game that will come out on the XBOX ONE. has to be 1GB long to fit with the 1GB rule.

    You've misunderstood the thread.

The OP is saying that PATCHES should be limited to 1gb in size, not the games themselves.

You still go over the data cap by game itself. Because it in 3-D,1080P and 60FPS. It take bunch of data. The day of small patch's are over due those thing. Only way it going work if games where made in 2-D,480p and 30FPS. With all that. The game be like
100MB. But you would complaine it not like PS4 games.

Just... Wow. Really? I... Wow. Had to re-read the last couple of posts.

I also want to make a mandatory IQ rule.

I'm so done with these forums.

  11. Why would you go over the cap with the games if you were buying them on disc?

Compressing the update to a zip file would not be a good idea for two reasons.

    1. The updates are mostly texture files. These files are already compressed, compressing them again won't shave much off the download size. Don't believe me? Take one of your jpg files from your digital camera or phone and compress it again as a zip
file. You'll see for yourself how little you can push the file size down.

    2. If the files are compressed as a zip type of file, they would have to be de-compressed. Which means a download and an 'install'. That sounds to me that it would increase the time before play could begin, not decrease it.

I dont 'rang' but rather conduct my bussiness in person. I make my $ locally, and I'll spend it locally.

So this Friday, I'll go down and ask. But you and I both know what they will say.

'We did that for New customers ONLY in order to promote sales of our services.' To whit I will say. Then cancel my services for a day, or week, and reinstall it at this speed and price.

    Think they'll go for it?

    Neither do I.
