I really do think patch sizes need to be kept down as much as possible, simply because of the convenience factor.

The convenience of just popping in a disc to play has gone, you now need to install games, don't extend the time it takes people to play their new purchase any longer by making them install huge patches too.

It's weird really. I'd have no issue with downloading a 20gb expansion pack for a game I love but I do take issue with having to download a patch that size that fixes the base game.

    :)

Uhhh, i am a parent of 2 children, my wife makes very little money because she raises our children. you don't know my circumstances so don't talk like you do. internet is cheap, if you can't afford that you suck at life. If you can't afford decent internet
maybe you shouldn't own an xbox. that money could have apparently been spent better

and i live in canada and my speeds are awesome, 25 mb and i could get way better if i wanted so i don't know what you're talking about

i can see haveing slow speeds due to your location but a cap doesn't make sense

  5. ^ It's good to see you're so knowledgeable about the rest of the world, and a parent.

I just got killer instinct on disc, it required a 19GB update.

  6. I have paid well over the last 4 years, 50 - now 70 bucks a month for 10 mbps cable internet. (TWC)

Just yesterday I saw a TWC ad on my xbox homepage for 50 mbps at 34.99 a month.

Now, I don't know about data caps, but it sickens me to know that if I were a 'New Customer' and not a loyal customer (never missed a payment) that I could lock in 50 mbps for 34.99 a month.

    Grrrrrrrrrrr.

It seems that the price of pocker keeps going up, and up while the chips with which to play this game called 'life' keeps being devalued.

It's a Dog eat dog world, and I am wearing Milkbone underware!

I dont 'rang' but rather conduct my bussiness in person. I make my $ locally, and I'll spend it locally.

So this Friday, I'll go down and ask. But you and I both know what they will say.

'We did that for New customers ONLY in order to promote sales of our services.' To whit I will say. Then cancel my services for a day, or week, and reinstall it at this speed and price.

    Think they'll go for it?

    Neither do I.

It is ridiculous. I go though a similar song and dance with Verizon every couple of years. I have to jump though hoops and talk to numerous agents for a couple of hours, but always end up with the better plan. Part of the reason having "loyalty" to a company
    is silly in my opinion.

    Peace, J.R.

  10. @ElectroFlying That's the thing, games aren't being released in a perfect state, and it will continue to be this way if we continue to live with it. This is why I love hearing about delays. Yeah some games may get small patches, but limiting it to just 1GB
for all games is impossible. Look how big games are these days. Now imagine there's a glitch among this big game. There's a big chance an update will actually be bigger than 1GB. I'm not saying it wont be, becuase some updates will surly be 1GB or less, but
the likihood is that it'll be a fairly big update. Look as Assassin's Creed Unity, didn't it have like a 15GB or 50GB update? That's not right. I am all for games coming out not broken at release, but sadly most games will come out with some problems, either
    really small, or quite big.

Lets face it, the gaming industry will continue to dish out broken games. Especially if games are being rushed to be released. Even those developers, who take their time on creating their games, aren't free from the problems.

Halo 2 was a long time ago, and I'm sure it eventually had patches released for it. Games are much bigger and with that, usually means bigger update sizes. I know it sucks, but 1GB limit is just not possible. I know there are people out there who can't download
big updates because of their internet, but that's the ISP to blame. Of course, it would be nice to see games less broken and less requiring of massive updates, but I don't know if it'll ever stop.

  11. Lol, I pay ,,,, I don't know, $100?? For a 200gb limit on cable, I'll soon be on the NBN which as half of you know, really excites me into a coma. Clearly, these Huge updates are fine for the U.S and UK, but the rest of the world? Sure I could get cheaper
internet and then have a crap connection to Europe and the U.S, but for online gaming i'd rather not. I know allot of people think that the updates are just as big on the competition, they really aren't unless it's actually DLC you've bought. Moving right
along before someone has a massive attack about my so-called "Anti Ms" ranting. With the Killer instinct disc, it requires 19GB of download which I assume is the entire game, It is worth it imo, loads more fun with all the characters. For those that don't
own it, I thought you should know both of these factors.

Even with delays (no rushing) I bet there still will be large patches, large coding updates, large files for additional content...small game files are gone. Gamers wanted this (hi-res, hi-detail, longer gameplay) now they have it. Gamers also foolishly pre-order
and support games before they are released in a broken state.

@Dr Black Bones: I beg to differ.

IMHO, Games aren't being released fully playable from 'day one' because the consumer is far too trusting of corporations. (Devs, or whatever)

Back when people were making games in their garage, you know back before Too Big To Jail got the patient rights and began mass produce the games. All the kinks were worked out BEFORE the game even shipped. Halo had glitches, but was still fully playable,
and exploiting those glitches became famous making Halo the "Game of the year." No patches required!

Now, almost everyone has access to fast internet, and the consumer has now been programmed to be impatient. So they'll accept anything corporate sends their way.

I agree when you said. "Lets face it, the gaming industry will continue to dish out broken games. Especially if games are being rushed to be released."

So why don't we Sheeple stop saying "Bahhhh" and start saying... "Nahhhhh. We won't accept that." by NOT pre-ordering their games anymore? So the logic is simple. Pre-orders go down, quality of the games being released without the need of patches goes UP.

"Games are much bigger and with that, usually means bigger update sizes." ~ I see that you're programmed extremely well. Can you not see from your own post that in one sentence you disagree with "release it, and patch it later" policies. While out of the
other side of your mouth seeking to find reasons for agreeing with it?

Speaking ONLY for myself. I am not going to defend in any way, shape or form, an industry that releases half cooked products. Which means I will not be sinking $ into Xbox, Playstation, nor Alienware. Not even PC, until said time as corporate accountability
finds a moral footing. Which may actually be never in this era of Dog eat dog!

I've rented a number of games lately. There seems to be a direct correlation between AAA titles and large updates. The poorer or less popular the game, the smaller the update. Hell, Murdered Soul suspect didn't even have an update(bought it for 10bucks,
    whoops).

I don't think the new Hi-rez theory holds any water, nor that all next-gen games are required to be crazy big. It is the developer and publisher. We need MS Xbox to rangle these in check with a limit and stop selling retail games incomplete.

The simple fact of the matter, next gen devs, now having access to blu-ray as storage got massively lazy, no compacting, no trimming.

We can watch in the coming month and use Witcher 3 as a pretty good example. 26 GB Game thus far, smaller dedicated dev and publisher. Game world reportedly bigger than Skyrim, graphics next gen, there's a lot of cut scenes, and the game is next gen exclusive,
    no cross gen.

Let's see what the initial update for this game is, then tell me inital 1st day updates cannot have a 1GB limit.

I think the way to patch with today games and some gamer connection. Is send it as a zip file. Zip file are compress data. And when downloaded. It uncompress as it installs.
