Just want to throw my two cents and say it's unfathomably idiotic that the Xbox needs online services in ANY capacity for me to play my blu-rays. Yeah, I've heard that you can 'switch to offline mode', but really? Really? To play my blu-rays. It should
literally be insert and go without any of this nonsense.

This isn't me complaining about Xbox Live as a whole, I understand maintaining a large network of services that thousands, if not millions, of people use everyday isn't easy, but being unable to play a Blu-ray until you get online and troubleshoot the issue
is absolute laziness and ineptitude.

Whoever made that decision should be fired.

:)

Blu - ray player

See, and I'm totally the opposite. I don't buy tons of movies anymore, but when I do, I buy the Blu-ray version. Most of the time it comes with a regular dvd anyways. I almost use my PS3 exclusively to play Blu-rays. Nine out of ten times if I buy a game, I buy it for the Xbox. The only time I play the PS3 is for the Sony exclusive titles like Uncharted or GoW.

Benocide.

I'm aware of people's recommendation to switch to offline mode. That's not my issue. My issue is that I simply shouldn't have to spend 20 minutes troubleshooting the issue to play Blu-Rays. When I put in a Blu-Ray, it should play as long as the thing
is connected to a TV and is getting electricity. Simple as that. The kicker is, I was getting two different error messages while trying to watch Blu-Rays with my wife after we got off work. Neither one of them, ultimately, even suggested to try offline
mode. Steam does. It will try once or twice and then let you know to try offline mode.

But again, I want to play Blu-Rays, why does it need Xbox Live, to verify the app before I run it? Does Microsoft think I freaking pirated the blu-ray player app on my Xbox? It's absolute insanity. It really is. Also, from a company who has been developing
software for 40 years and has enough capital to shame the GDP of a few small countries, it's honestly unacceptable given how much we pay for these consoles.

DVD playback quality is still atrocious.

No I would expect a blu ray player to play DVDs as good as a standalone DVD player. Blu Ray players don't magically improve DVDs. The problem would appear to be that the One blu Ray player doesn't perform well when playing DVDs in comparison to other
Blu Ray players.

3d Blu rays
So it's all in one media device but I still need my 3D blu ray player plugged in? Ridiculous
IMHO a stand alone Blu-Ray player is always going to do a better job of playing Blu-Rays than a console. As you already own the 3D Blu-ray player what's the issue?

3D blu-ray
Sorry if this has been covered before but does anyone know when 3D blu-ray is going to supported as my player is on its way out?
Why not buy a 3D blu-ray player its not like they cost much and the Xbox One uses software for Blu-ray playback unlike proper Blu-ray players.
