0x87dd0003: the aftermath

I ‘am sure you all have heard about the huge connection problems yesterday with Xbox Live. The issue affected millions of Xbox One users around the whole world and was not resolved for many hours.
Meanwhile, the issue has been solved and everything works just fine, but the incident showed a major problem that has not yet been resolved!

Microsoft states that the console can be used offline too. But during the incident yesterday, no one could use the console at all, nothing worked in the "offline" mode! Starting an app or a game always returned the 0x87dd0003 error;
no way to play any game in the offline mode.

So okay, Xbox Live might be down from time to time, no problem with that, but how can it be that during that period the console is entirely useless? It is understandable that all functionality that is connected in some way to Xbox
live won't work in that case, but it is not acceptable that nothing works when the Xbox live servers are down.

I hope that Microsoft fixes this issue and hopefully gives a short statement. I also think that I ‘am not the only one who thinks this way and ask everyone to join this discussion.

(Please note: this is not about "uh, I don't want to connect my Xbox One to the Internet at all". It is about the case that if Xbox Live is temporarily unavailable, one should still be able to use the console in a limited way, i.e.
playing a single player game locally)
