So wait.... This issue is fixed via another update? Or will I need to bring my brand new console back to the store for no good reason? Kind of seeing both things here. Hoping it is fixed via update

 

What i mean is.... If i bought on 8/18 and got the optical issue, will i be able to upgrade again and have the issue go away? Or will I need to exchange after 3 days? and right before the new Madden comes out? That will be the final straw for me.

 

From what I understand, the update for the 17th August update can't be applied to already bricked consoles so you will have to take it back to the store and get a replacement

 

Heya, I get the same error message, but not for games, only select blu ray discs. It plays some but not others. Just bought Star Wars bluray/DVD combo. It won't play the bluray, it will play DVD. I've done all the resets and reinstalls. I have other Blu-ray
Discs that it will play. I'm also part of the xbox preview program, I updated last night. Hope this info helps.

 

Just got of the phone with a support tech . I am currently installing the update on console number 4 im hoping this one will work. He told me that if you cannot exchange the console to use this:

support.xbox.com/.../offline-system-update-diagnostic-tool

And apparently that will also fix the bugged os from the previous update. I do not know for sure if this just another bs statement or not.When i asked him why they didnt just post that in the forums for people as a solution he said oh ya good point we will
look into it . They also offered me 3 months gold for compensation. Nowhere near enough for the headache if you ask me but anyways. If this time around it does not work for me i will try that option you need a 2gb flash drive for this to work. If not then
it will be money back. Im hoping this last console exchange and update right now will be the working update. Ill keep everyone posted.

 

I tried the Offline System Update Diagnostic Tool today and it did not fix the problem. I'll be returning my Xbox get a replacement this evening. I'll let you know if it works.

im living oversea, replacement is certainly a nightmare...

 

as far as i see, the patch version is same with my current one..1408.140808-1753) fre.

so im afraid it won't help...

 

Just to make it clear, I bought a new console yesterday and the update bricked the console, if you have this problem the only way is by either exchanging it, if it's a new one, or if old sending it for repair. You can try everything but once it's bricked,
it's nothing but a door stop until you change it.

 

OK Microsoft, trying my 3rd system which I just had to go drive out in the middle of the evening to get from the MS store. I have spent numerous hours and trips trying to make this right. I am watching a 700 Meg download to clean to update the system.

I truly hope a free game will be given in recompense for this. So many people have been negatively affected. I am actually the XBOX cheerleader to my friends who all have PS4s.this is my second system so my wife and I can coop Destiny.

Loyal customer, hope you do something to make this right with all the people affected.

i have returned 3 xboxes in the past week and now a fresh one waiting to be updated. im too scared to try it...

 

OK, after this last update the console now works as it should. I have no peace about this. Three trips to the store to get the system to work as it should...
