    Hi.

    I'm having a nightmare with the Xbox Edition of Football Manager 21. I've been playing it almost since launch on my laptop without any issues, and even as recently as Thursday I was on without a problem. However, when I tried to load it on Saturday on my laptop I was greeted with the 0x80004005 error. I can load it on the Xbox, and I can play any other game on the Xbox, while I can also play other games on the PC, but this simply will not work.

    Xbox Support on Twitter guided me towards their contact pages for an online chat, but I can't find anything that's suitable, so I feel kind of stuck.

    I have followed every piece of advice I can follow online (reinstalling the Xbox app, reinstalling the game, ensuring Windows is fully up to date, syncing the time and date amongst others) but still no joy.

    I simply don't understand why other games work and this one doesn't, or that the problem has suddenly occurred after almost an entire year without problems.

    Any help anybody can provide will be enormously appreciated.

    I appreciate you sharing this issue with us and we are still going to continue to investigate the source of this error and hopefully find a viable solution to others that face this issue. We tried so many things I'm not sure what changed it or if anything changed the state of your PC to trigger it into working, but I will pass on any and all information that you've supplied. Hoping to use this to be able to help the other people that may face this issue.

    "Honestly, I have no idea, but it’s interesting that it works. That also may be why it’s not frequently reported. That if a user sees that the Xbox Edition doesn’t work, tries the standard and it does, they probably feel as though the issue is solved when it isn’t."

    I'm not sure about that. It's not possible to carry a save from the Xbox Edition into the full fat game, so I'd have thought people would shout up. I put weeks worth of playing time into my saves, I'm sure others do too.

    All a bit baffling really.

    Here's your tally, with my comments added in bold:

    • Windows + I Key Method - (Logging in through the Xbox App rather than being logged in already.) This shows I'm logged in through the laptop account rather than the Xbox. Forgive me if I'm being thick, but there is no evident way I can sign out, but selecting on the "my Microsoft account" link opens a browser window, from there I am signed in to the Xbox account, and the Xbox app is also signed in as my Xbox account.
    • Deleted everything in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download. Done.
    • PC Clean Up - Deleting Excess Files. Done.
    • Checked for a windows update. Done.
    • Checked for any Store App Updates. Done.
    • wsreset method. Done.
    • Turned off Windows Defender. Was already off, managed by my own anti-virus software. I have since disabled and tried again, without success.
    • Activate offline permissions in the Microsoft Store app. Done.
    • Contacted Internet Provider. Not done for the same reason I haven't reinstalled OS. Other games work.
    With regards to point 1, the accounts matched. Although the Microsoft store generally opens under my laptop account, the Xbox app itself has a message after I log-in telling me my Microsoft account has been set to my Xbox account. I have also gone into the Microsoft account and manually logged out and in again with the Xbox account, just to be sure.

    With point 2, I'm not sure. What *used* to happen was I'd receive a "welcome " message just before I reached the start screen,. I don't recall ever playing offline, even though I'm set up to do so. It's puzzling that there aren't lots of people receiving the same error message if it was an FM21 server issue though.
