  1. (09.13.14) HDMI Surround 5.1 ISSUE - No Center or Rear Sound

    THE SETUP

Xbox One --HDMI--> Sony AV Receiver STR-KS370 --HDMI--> Sharp LC-52LE640U LED TV

    • AV Receiver is my HDMI hub (3 HDMI IN to 1 HDMI ARC to TV)
    • AV Receiver only 2 years old and outputs both Dolby and DTS surround 5.1
    • HDMI Cables are Amazon brand (HDMI+ETHERNET)
Xbox One Settings: HDMI AUDIO OUT: Bit stream Out

    OPTICAL OUT: OFF

    BITSTREAM AUDIO: Dolby Digital

    THE ISSUE

I cannot get my rear or center channel to work properly with Xbox One. I had suspicion that surround sound wasn't working correctly when testing out my new Turtle Beach XP400's directly off of Xbox One and hear no surround. So disconnected the
headphones and I loaded a couple of dolby and dts surround sound 5.1 test videos via YouTube app to test my Sony surround system. I noticed that RL, RR, & Center channel sounds comes through FL & FR speakers only. I believe the TV app works fine only because
I can actually hear from center speaker now, not sure about rear speakers since I can't find any good programming right now that would utilize those speakers.

Is this an issue only under the YouTube app or all apps? What's a good Blu-ray to test for surround? Please help... I'm an audiophile and bugs me that I cannot get this to work.

    :)

    Onkyo Surround Sound Issue

I have a smilar issue. When I activate 5.1 uncompressed under HDMI, my rear speakers don't work like they should. Front, Center and Sub are working perfect, but Rear is mute or very low.

When I watch a blu-ray (Thor), I only here the music, no voices or any other sounds. When I plug my HDMI Cable to my blu-ray player -> everything works fine.

    Hulu not working Surround Sound

Thank you for the reply but this did not solve my issue. The links all speak to the basic setting options. I have tried every HDMI option within the settings and I get the same results.

    Problem:

Hulu will not do 5.1 surround sound, no matter which option I pick. Either FR/FL no sub or just center.

Pandora will not play 5.1 surround sound only stereo FR/FL, no sub.

BUT- Netflix, Movies (except previews, which makes zero sense) and games do play just fine 5.1 Surround Sound.

I tested multiple HDMI ports and settings, even different HDMI cables.

I also plugged in my Chromecast to the same port from up stairs, zero issues, everything plays beautifully.

So at this point all I can figure is it is settings with the Xbox One not being able to transmit 5.1 surround sound on all of its apps (i.e. Hulu, Pandora).

I'm at my ends, really hoping someone who uses surround sound with a receiver and uses Hulu might be able to chime in.

Do you have the same problem when using DTS as Bitstream format? Are you having the chance to test if sounds work correctly when using the optical out?

The same information is going around regarding trying the optical port, changing all the settings, etc. The fact is many people are having this issue, and it started after the last console update. And in most cases the suggested troubleshooting options don't
work. It's a software issue because it does not always manifest. For some people games have surround and other apps don't, for others it is the opposite. Clearly not a settings issue.

I have seen (unverified) reports that Xbox support is telling people that getting the surround sound to work properly is a "feature request" and not a bug fix. That would be tremendously disappointing if that is official policy here.

I have had a problem (no center channel with DD) after a MS update to my 360 console. Prior to the update my console worked fine with all sources ie games, apps and movies. But now I have no center channel audio from the Xbox through my Denon AV amp no
matter what settings or connections I try. This problem has to be software & MS related as my console functioned perfectly prior to the software update. I am very reluctant to upgrade to the One console after three failed Xbox's (all repaired foc by MS) and
a a fairly annoying bug on my 360 elite as yet to be rectified.

Just wanted to add that when I put my Xbox One on Bitstream and Dolby or DTS, I don't get true 5.1 sound. It's more like Pro Logic II, where it just guesses on a stereo signal.

My favorite game, PES 2015, is also only 720p on the Xbox One and 1080p pn a PS4 (who happens to Bitstream correctly).

Kind of regretting trading in my PS3 right now... Any fixes to the sound issues coming?

7.1 uncompressed will not use the side surrounds when watching tv! Please fix with an update.

This has been a problem since the Ones release and not been fixed. Richie...ugh, Yes most are in 5.1, Sooooo the One should either matrix the rears, or duplicate the rears with the l/r surrounds. There should be sound coming out of the main surrounds,
NOT just the rear surrounds. For example- 5.1 should be coming out of the main surrounds, and matrixed to the rear surrounds, OR just duplicate the main surrounds to the rear surrounds as well in a 7.1 setup. Right now, all 5.1 from a directv receiver that
sends dolby is silent on the main surrounds, and only using the rear surrounds in a 7.1 setup. Ps. My system is setup correctly, so no bs checking setup posts, etc. Something is off on the coding, and needs to be fixed.
