We understand that you're experiencing an issue concerning an inability to view the friends from your friends list when they get online on your Xbox One console.

If the problem persists, try doing a soft factory reset of the console,
reset and keep games and apps to help reset the operating system. Please note before doing this troubleshooting step, make sure to know your email and passwords for your Xbox profiles.

You can check
Troubleshooting for multiplayer issue

If it's not work you can try deleting the profile from the console (profile only), clear the system cache, restart the console and re-download the profile as this can clear up a lot of account issues.

Delete and re-download profile: support.xbox.com/.../profile-move-delete

Clear system cache: support.xbox.com/.../clear-system-cache

Also I would double check that your friends haven't changed their privacy settings as they can block you from seeing their online status without 'appearing offline'

If you click on the 'My Account' heading under your gamertag at the top right and select 'Manage My security' you can permanently be set to offline, I would check that none of your friends have done this.

Thank you for such a quick reply. Unfortunately this did not help resolve the issue I was having. XBF Javier R's suggestion did the trick though.
