XBox Series X external storage error code 0x80bd003b USB 3.2 1TB too slow?

I just bought a Crucial X10 SSD 3.2 1TB. I formatted it to NTSF and then pulled it into my Xbox series X no prompt came up so I could choose to use it for media and where I went to change it to my caption location I got this: To capture game clips and screenshots externally, storage must be USB 3.0 or faster. This device is too slow. (0x80bd003b). Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Xbox Series X eternal hard drive

    Hi,

If your game is now a Series X optimised title, it can no longer be played off an external hard drive. It must be moved to either the internal storage or an optional expansion card.

External USB hard drives are too slow to play Series X optimised games. None Series X games will still run from your external drive. The internal storage in the Series X is a fast NVME SSD. These drives are several times faster than mechanical hard drives.

    Storage Device too slow error

Xbox Series X|S games can only be installed on the console's internal storage or the external Seagate SSD card. Link here. External drives are too slow for those games. The external hard drive can only be used to install backward compatible games (Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One).

Why can I not install game pass games on the USB external hard drive?

    External storage and refunds

Expansion cards are available for external storage that will work with Series S/X games. Regular external drives would be too slow so in order for them to fix it, you'd be looking at longer load times and downgraded performance.

    Storage for xbox

The expansion card is a Solid State Drive (SSD). This runs the same speed as the Series X|S internal storage as already stated above.

Without getting too technical, this storage is basically a fast Flash Storage chip, 1TB in size on a PCB (printed circuit board) with a controller chip and some RAM. Basically, fast storage with no moving parts.

Most Seagate Game Drives are standard slow mechanical hard drives with lots of moving parts. These slow drives can not be used for Series X|S games. But they can used to archive these titles.
