    I'm sure this would have been mentioned historically.

    I play a lot of xbox windows games weekly that are cloud save enabled. Once I finish what I want to do, I end up uninstalling them, to come back potentially again at a later date. Sometimes, within a couple of weeks.

    The amount of times I've returned to a game and found out that I have no save data, even after it has re-synced my save with the cloud is unreal and way beyond any expectation I would reasonably have.

    I've tried everything from sitting in menus for a few minutes, force exiting games, quitting the game through menus, quitting a game - reloading in to it - sitting on a menu - quitting properly - leaving installed for an hour before then uninstalling, to find that there is no consistent way of ensuring my save has backed up or not.

    The console experience is extremely reliable, I can't think I've ever had a problem. I find the PC experience to be a complete finger in the air with no way of actually knowing if I'm having to start over from no progress to being 10 hours deep in to a game.

    Is there any way to implement some sort of simple Xbox app notification to say or show when a game was last backed up to the cloud?

    This would enable us to have a actual reference rather than just going by chance if our games have actually backed up or not.

    Thanks for reaching out to the forums! Cloud saves are a feature of both the Windows 10 and Steam versions of FFVIII however the cloud saves do not carry over between the two. In order to retrieve your previous Windows 10 cloud saves you would have to have the Windows 10 version installed on your pc.

    FOLLOW-UP:

    This morning I saw a Windows notification that Xbox has restored all my game data. I clicked on the notification and got a "Welcome Back" sign in window. Apparently, something did change in the cloud because this never happened before. The game still loads and works.

    When hovering my mouse over my username at the top right of the game window, a popup shows "You are signed in and connected to Xbox Live. Your progress is being saved in the cloud." So, the part about your progress being saved to the cloud is true. Whether or not it is successful in doing so is another story. The bottom line is, if you uninstalled the game, there is a 99.9% chance your progress is still there. That is, barring any technical issues like an unstable internet connection, router/firewall configuration, registry errors, corrupted Windows system files, etc.

    Another thing to consider is that some basic features like cloud saves are behind a PS+ subscription while they are free on xbox one.

    I know of a few people without a PS+ sub who have had corrupted saves & lost 100's of hours of gameplay due to it not being backed up to cloud servers.

    Security is far better on xbox than on the other platforms so your personal details are a lot safer

    If the information was deleted from the cloud or the auto save feature replaced the saves which then synced to the cloud the information is then gone.

    Due to the Cloud Save feature being a main party of the Vire Service it can't be disabled like the Xbox 360 cloud save.

    Also is your console enrolled in to the preview program?
