    recording in party

Currently the Xbox Game DVR app does not support recording party chat.

You will have to use external hardware and software to capture party chat and ingame sound/video, like an ElGato.

To be able to record party chat audio you will need an Elgato or anything external capture card as that will capture any audio on your Xbox (Party, Game, All audio)

how do you record video clips longer than 10-25 seconds?

That's why people buy a PVR. Many people on Xbox 360 too share gameplay on YouTube. I got a Hauppauge HD PVR2 at the start of 2014. Another good PVR I heard is also the elgato or something. Hauppauge is good too.

Benefits is record gameplay in 1080p, records game/party chat and game sound and game music, and commentary. Most of these features I find are lacking with the Xbox DVR. You can also record for as long as you want, not just 30 seconds or 5 minutes lol.

Is there any way to hear party chat/voice chat when I clip things? I just think it will make the clips way better

    Hello Dear User

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are having trouble on party chat when you clipping, and I understand your confusion.

Having voice chat in your clips can definitely make them more engaging, especially for capturing the full context of a moment. Unfortunately, by default, Xbox Series S doesn't record party chat or game voice chat when you clip gameplay, but there are a few ways you can work around this limitation to capture voice chat along with the game footage:

Enable "Include Party Audio" in Xbox Settings

Unfortunately, Xbox Series S doesn't automatically capture party chat when you make clips directly on the console. But if you're using a Xbox Live Party chat feature, there’s a setting to include party audio in recordings.

    • On your Xbox Series S, follow these steps:
    • Go to Settings > General > Volume & audio output.
    • Under Party chat output, make sure "Headset" is selected so you can hear your party while recording clips.
    • Ensure your party settings allow voice to be included in your clips (sometimes in settings within the party itself).
Although this setting will help during regular gameplay, it doesn't guarantee voice chat is automatically recorded with clips when you're using the Xbox’s native clip tool.

Use an External Capture Device (For More Control)

If you want more flexibility and control over your clips, you can use an external capture card like the Elgato or AverMedia devices. These capture cards allow you to capture both game and voice chat audio more reliably, including party chat.

    • With a capture card, you can record everything, including game audio, voice chat, and even your microphone, all at once.
    • Connect the capture card to your Xbox and your PC.
    • Use the capture card's software to record clips.
    • Adjust the audio settings in the software to ensure voice chat is included.
Use a Dedicated Audio Recording App

Alternatively, you can use an app or an external microphone to record your party chat separately and then sync it up with your game footage in video editing software later.

    • You can use apps like Discord or a separate microphone to capture the chat, then sync it with your gameplay footage in something like Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or even simpler editors like Shortcut.

Unfortunately, without a workaround (like using a capture card or an external app), Xbox consoles don't natively record party voice chat in clips. Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.

    Best Regards.

I only have a USB wireless headphones that don't have a 3.5 mm Jack on them nd I am trying to put commentary on my gameplay videos

Hello, and thanks for getting in touch. I'm Aileen, and I'm here to provide you with advice as an Independent Advisor.

Since you're using a USB wireless headset without a 3.5 mm jack, and you're on an Xbox Series S (the small one), I want to set your expectations early — Xbox consoles do not support USB audio devices like headsets through the USB port for voice chat or commentary. That includes USB dongles, even if the headset works fine on PC.

Here’s a workaround you can try without buying anything new:

    > Option 1: Use Xbox Party Chat and Record via Capture Card (if available)

If you already use a capture card (like Elgato), plug your headset into your PC and join the Xbox party through the Xbox App on your computer. Then:

On your PC, open the Xbox Console Companion App or Xbox Game Bar, sign in.

Join the Xbox Party Chat from your PC using your USB wireless headset.

Record your gameplay commentary via OBS or your capture software.

This method gives you your voice + gameplay, and it keeps everything free.

    > Option 2: Record voice separately and sync later

If you don’t have a capture card:

Use your USB headset on your PC or laptop to record your voice separately with free software like Audacity.

Play your game and record it using the Xbox capture feature (double-tap Xbox button > press X to record).

Later, sync your commentary to the gameplay using free editing software like DaVinci Resolve or CapCut PC.

This method takes a little time to sync, but no new purchases are needed.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance. Looking forward to your response.
