    Xbox PC App’s New Features Are Underhanded — Possibly Illegal in UK


    So, I hadn’t launched the Xbox app in a while… fired it up today and was met with two serious red flags that absolutely need attention, especially under UK consumer and data laws:

    1. Xbox Is Now Scraping All My Non-Xbox Games


    The entire sidebar is now full of:

    • Every Steam game I own (yes, even obscure ones like Towns)
    • Every Epic Games title

    Xbox does not own these games. I never gave permission to index or display them.
    This is a clear competition and data transparency issue, and possibly breaches:

    • UK Competition Act 1998
    • Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations
    • GDPR / Data Protection Act 2018 (no opt-out, no disclosure, no TOS update)
    2. “Buy and Stream This Game” = Misleading Nonsense


    The app now offers you the chance to BUY a game and stream it — but in fine print?

    You still need Game Pass Ultimate to actually stream it.

    So… let me get this straight:

    I’m meant to pay full price for a game, and then also pay a subscription just to access it via the cloud?

    This is intentionally misleading, and many users will likely assume buying = streamable. That’s classic bait-and-switch UX.2. “Buy and Stream This Game” = Misleading Nonsense

    I’ve Reported This to the ICO


    I’ve already reported both points above to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and through the Microsoft Feedback Hub.

    I strongly recommend you do the same if this behavior affects you. This is not “just annoying,” this is invasive, non-consensual data scraping and manipulative design.

    Let’s not let this slide just because “it’s Microsoft.”

    The feature to broadcast from your Xbox to PC isn't available for the new Xbox app at this time. There are a lot of features that are still only available on the old companion app, like trimming and uploading game clips to Xbox Live. Hopefully some of those
    features will be added to the new app in the future.

    Xbox Accessories App have new feature to update firmware from PC. This fix the problem. Connection with app have to be via cable.
