Xbox App Won't Open

I have the same issue. I have no idea what the problem is and I've tried dozens of troubleshooting. This is unacceptable!

There's a lot of possible reasons you're unable to open the Xbox app. One of which is having a corrupted app file. To help you resolve this concern, I suggest that you perform the troubleshooting steps below:

Step 1: Run the troubleshooter for Windows apps using the link below. This can help remove conflicts with an app from Microsoft Store.

Step 2: Reset Xbox app from Settings.

1. Click Start and click Settings.
2. Select System. Select Apps & features.
3. Find the Xbox app and click Advanced options.
4. Click Reset. Restart your device so that the changes can take effect. Launch the Xbox app.
   

Step 3: Delete temporary files.

1. Click Start and click Settings.
2. Select System.
3. Select Storage.
4. Select This PC.
5. Click Temporary files.
6. Choose Temporary files.
7. Click Remove files.

Check for updates on Windows Update and install all updates including optional/additional updates.
Open the Microsoft Store, click on the 3 dots in the upper right corner ''download and updates'' and click on ''get updates'' and update everything.
Also install the Xbox Companion app, log in with your account, reboot to apply updates, and try using the Xbox app again.

Please try running the following PowerShell script to re-register the new Store:

In the Search box, type CMD

Right click on Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator

In the command prompt, enter the following command:

PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Command "& {$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest}"

I understand you're trying to open the Xbox app on your PC and it's stuck on “Opening Xbox app” without ever launching — even after restarting, reinstalling, and updating. That’s incredibly frustrating, especially when you're locked out of your game library. I’ve dealt with this too, so let’s go through a few steps that have worked for others (and myself) in the past.

Step 1: Repair or Reset the Xbox app from Windows settings

Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps

Search for Xbox

Click the three dots > Advanced options

Try Repair first — if it still fails, try Reset

This won’t delete your games but will clear the app’s cache and restore it to its default state.

Step 2: Make sure the Xbox and Gaming Services are running properly

Sometimes the app won’t open if its required services are stuck.

Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter

Look for Gaming Services and Xbox Live Auth Manager

Make sure they’re both set to Automatic and are running. If not, right-click and select Start

Step 3: Reinstall Gaming Services manually

Open PowerShell as Administrator

Copy and paste this command:

get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers

Then:

start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN

This will open the Microsoft Store page for Gaming Services. Reinstall it from there and reboot your PC.

Step 4: Check your Microsoft Store and Xbox identity

Open Microsoft Store > Make sure you're signed in with the same account you use for Xbox

Update the Microsoft Store app and all pending app updates

Try launching the Xbox app again after updates finish
