    I purchased Grand Theft Auto a few years ago and have played it on and off ever since but recently I re-downloaded it and it says my account does not have access to online play. I’ve never had a game pass and I’ve always been able to play grand theft auto because I purchased a digital copy of it. Why can I no longer play online?

    Thanks for the reply. I have tried both ways i.e. logging on to the home console as the Gold account holder and vice versa and all we keep getting is an error message that "Your profile does not have permission to access GTA online."

    Game Pass Core (at the least) is required to play online. A subscription has always been required. You may not have Game Pass, but you may have had Gold in the past (which was discontinued and replaced with Core) or someone else was sharing their subscription with you.
