Strangely it hasn't been a problem for Red dead Redemption 1 OR Assassins Creed 1 ( both on xbox 360).

Unfortunately, there is no option to turn off cloud saves. Your progress is always saved locally first, and if your console is connected to the internet, that progress will automatically sync to the cloud.

If your progress isn’t showing up, try resyncing your profile to see if that helps. You can do this by signing out, restarting your console, and then signing back in.

Can I just save to my xbox hard drive and not bother with the cloud in the future? However it would be good to retrieve what I have achieved this far.

Does this only happen with Assassin's Creed 2? Do you see any errors?
